If you were growing up in the UK 20 years ago, Mike Skinner and The Streets weren’t just artists they were part of everyday life. They sounded like us. They spoke like us. And more importantly, they told our stories before we even knew how to. At a time when most music felt larger than life, The Streets made everything feel normal… and that’s exactly why it hit so hard. This was music about being skint, falling in and out of love, nights that didn’t quite go to plan, overthinking everything at 2am, trying to figure life out with your mates. Tracks like “Dry Your Eyes” and “Fit But You Know It” weren’t just songs ,they were moments we all recognised. Conversations that stuck with you, awkward encounters, the little wins, the little losses. It was the first time a lot of us heard music that didn’t feel out of reach… it felt like it belonged to us. And that’s why it mattered so much to our generation. Because Mike Skinner didn’t try to be a superstar. He was just a normal lad telling honest stories and somehow that made him one of the most important voices of that era. 20 years later, it still connects. Because it takes you straight back to a time when life was messy, funny, confusing… and completely real. And for a lot of us, that was the first time music truly felt like it understood us. Need some help from any Rekordbox experts out there 🙏 First off, big shout to everyone at @theforwardmotion . Another exceptional party. Massive thanks to @stevenceemusic and @kai_forwardmotion for letting me loose on the 338 terrace once again. 🙏🙏 So, about an hour before heading to Forward Motion and @legacyeventslondon , I exported my playlists to USB to run a few blends and get my ear in. As soon as I plugged in, around 50% of my tracks wouldn’t load, all showing: ‘Media or file is corrupt or unavailable - E-8302: Cannot Play Track’ There was no pattern at all, old tracks I’ve played for years, brand new downloads, MP3s, WAVs, AIFFs, all mixed. I tried re-exporting to another USB, same issue. I bounced some key tracks to fresh WAVs in Logic Pro. About half of those worked, but I ran out of time and had to head to 338 and hope for the best. Got there, same problem. Only about half my library would load. Managed to get through the set, vibes were unreal, but at one point I tried loading 5–6 tracks in a row that all failed 😅👀 Straight after, I went back to the studio to prep for Legacy. I built a new playlist using only tracks that had worked, tested everything again, and re-exported. This time, only about 10–15% of tracks would load. Even the fresh WAVs from Logic stopped working. At that point I had to pull the plug, sorry again @d.e.c_casa_loco / @mccreedmusic , gutted I couldn’t make Egg. I’ve done the usual digging google / chat gpt but haven’t got to the bottom of it yet. Need this sorted ASAP as I’m playing @backto95oldskool this Saturday b2b with my bro @dj_listener If anyone has experienced this or knows what’s going on, please help 🙏.
