Over the past year I’ve been making wood fired ceramics between India, Japan and Australia, learning through different studios, firing methods and traditions along the way.
Every piece is handmade and finished through the wood firing process, creating natural variations that make each one slightly different.
Ive finally gotten around to making a website and these pieces are now available to purchase through the link in my bio 📸 @megvanniekerk

I had a great time at Fieldwork Sasayama. Was a busy few weeks learning and firing the anagama.
Thanks @johndixstudio for sharing your knowledge and everyone else who made it a special experience.

From the quiet rhythms of Golden Pottery Studio to the deep fires of Japan — ceramic artist Jack Staley is heading overseas to learn the art of anagama wood firing with master potter John Dix, following an invitation sparked by time spent at the studio.
⠀
It’s a rare chance to step deeper into a practice shaped by fire, patience, and shared knowledge — where slow processes and long firings tell their own stories.

Last firing @goldenbridgepottery in the small downdraught kiln, It’s hard putting everything into words what my experience here in india has been for the past 6 months,
Spending time here has been more than just learning clay stepping into a space that shaped modern ceramics in India and immersing in the culture here has been truely formative experience,
Grateful to have been a small part of it all , even for a short while. ❤️
Past few month have been flying by, deep in the throwing process, paying a lot of attention to new forms and developing deep appreciation for this craft, looking forward to glazing and our first wood firing
