The day after the election last year, @melatkirosco called me saying she was planning on running for Congress in Denver. Months of brainstorming followed, and she’s now running one of the most promising and focused campaigns I’ve had the privilege to be part of. Her commitment to centering money in politics as the root of so many of the problems and barriers we face is not only accurate, it’s speaking to all generations of voters who are so sick of politicians doing nothing in the face of growing inequity. I’m extra proud to have made this launch video and work with the amazing team that has grown to support her. Plus, one of my favorite artists @rapsody (literally my most listened to artist on Spotify last year) let us use her song for this video because she believes so much in what Melat is fighting for. Watch out for her campaign, you’re going to be hearing her name a lot in the coming months.

Two years ago, I went down to DC to film and support a hunger strike calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. That’s where I first met @zohrankmamdani , and it was clear then that this man is a true force - not just politically, but emotionally. The severity and urgency of that moment was so clear when talking with him, and yet his warmth and soundness felt unusually palpable for someone our age. I can’t imagine what those days were like on his physical and mental health, but at the end of the day as we walked away from the White House, he jokingly daydreamed about the different Indian dishes that would mockingly appear when he closed his eyes. This is why I am so thrilled for him to be our next Mayor. As he puts his body on the line for what he believes in, he does so with joy and energy, while deeply caring for humanity and the people he meets, and has yet to meet. Zohran so clearly cares about his fellow humans at his core, and it's so painful to realize how few of our elected officials I can say the same for. I cannot wait to wake up soon in a city that would vote in such a beautiful human. #votezohran

I made a couple 30 second ads supporting @zohrankmamdani that are up on TV this week before the election. Early voting is now open, please go vote if you're in NYC! Huge thank you to @theograyfilms for capturing the Bernie/Zohran footage for this!

Ten years ago, I made a fake press pass to sneak into Bernie's rally at Washington Square Park. It was before I did any work in progressive politics and even before my time working at Women's March or any other human rights organizations. Bernie and his campaign truly was the catalyst for all of the work I have done since. Today, I got to go to his home in Burlington to film him for a documentary I'm directing about solar power. I had the honor of being able to tell one of my heroes what he means to me.

New Yorkers - rank Zohran Mamdani #1 today! He has the only chance of making sure we don't have Andrew Cuomo as our Mayor, and he would by far be the best person to ever run this city. Get out the vote, stay in line, and let's make this happen!
