Going to a struggling family-owned restaurant in Vancouver. 📍 Jack's Chowder (5772 Fraser St, Vancouver) They recently opened up on Instagram about their decline in business. Owners Matt and Corvette have been operaitng Shameless Buns, a Filipino food truck business, for about seven years. Jack's Chowder used to originally be a Shameless Buns brick and mortat, but unfortunately it did not take off so they rebranded completely. The restaurant name itself, Jack's Chowder, is named after their late baby who they lost in 2021. Despite opening a second location in Bentall Centre, sales are still plummeting; they quoted even a $360 day a couple weeks ago. So please, if you're in the area, try them out. Matt and Corvette are lovely people and I'll never forget how much my mom enjoyed their Filipino fries. Hey Vancouver. Just got back from a couple of days on your town and want to blow up the spots of two amazing mom & pop restaurants that you’ve probably never heard of but need to know The first one is an Indian restaurant called Delhi 6 (@delhi6.vancouver )) at 1766 W 7th Ave in Kitsilano. Lari and I both love Indian food and have had it all over the world. This place is, by far, the best Indian food we’ve ever had and DEFINITELY the best we’ve had in Vancouver. They have nothing but 4 and 5 star reviews but their location is hidden down a residential street so it’s kinda hard to find. But, it’s the one. The best, Jerry! 

The other place is Jack’s Chowder @jackschowder )at 5575 Fraser Street and 1071 Dunsmuir Street. We went to the Fraser location a couple of months after they opened with a few friends. Amazing clam chowder and fish & chips but the fried fish sandwich was out of this world (Lari freaked out on it!). The owner, Matt put up a post last week about them not doing that great financially so all of their customers are doing what they can to promote both locations. I don’t live in Vancouver, but if I did, I’d be eating there a few times a week. 

And dat’s dat. If you’re ever in Vancouver and craving either of these cuisines, forget what Yelp and trendy hipster sights recommend: hit these up. You won’t be disappointed. #vancouver #canada #bc #foodies

Time To Chow Down On Some CHOWDER 🥣🐟 • 📸: @jackschowder 🥣New England Clam Chowder 🌮Jack’s Tacos (Cod & Shrimp) 🐟Fish & Chips 🍟 Salt & Vinegar Fries 🍤Dill Pickle Popcorn Shrimp 🍔Nashville Hot Fish Sandwich 🦐Shrimp Croissant Roll 🍮Sticky Toffee Pudding • I found this incredible gem in Vancouver for clam chowder bread bowls & seafood. @jackschowder has it all from chowder bowls, massive fish & chips, tacos & fish sandwiches & more 🐟 Their New England Clam Chowder is an absolute must try, I’d highly recommend getting it in the sough dough bread bowl adding bacon & lobster oil 🥣 Jack’s Tacos comes with one Cod & one Shrimp taco loaded with their freshly made pineapple salsa & mango habanero sauce 🌮 The Fish & Chips are massive, their Salt and Vinegar fries are sooo addictive, reminded us of the taste of a Filipino dish - Sinigang 🍟 The Shrimp Croissant Roll was perfectly flaky & loaded with large fresh chunks of shrimp 🦐 & if there is one thing you absolutely need to try it’s their Nashville Hot Fish Sandwich 🍔 The fish was perfectly fried, loved their pickles in it & their hot sauce is everything! Great people. Great vibe. And the food? Let me walk you through it. The fish — crispy, light, perfectly done. The salt & vinegar fries were addictive. The sesame apple slaw was cold and creamy, exactly how it should be. And the chowder? Sourdough bread bowl, bacon, lobster oil. That one hit different. Jax is still talking about the toffee pudding — Biscoff, bits of Skor bar, somehow even better than it sounds. Sounds like they've been going through a tough stretch — but the community response has been outstanding. And honestly, that's the part that gives me hope. People showing up for each other.
