Are you surprised? 🤔
New data shows Canada’s growing “brain drain,” with highly educated and skilled Canadians leaving for countries like the United States in search of better opportunities.
This is driven by high housing costs, weak wage growth, and limited career opportunities, which make it harder for young professionals to build stable lives.
Experts warn that without major policy changes, this trend will continue to weaken Canada’s economy as the country loses its brightest workers to other countries.
B.C. drivers are being warned. 🚔
BC Highway Patrol handed out 999 tickets in April to drivers who failed to slow down and move over when passing stopped emergency vehicles.
The rule applies when police, ambulances, fire trucks, or tow trucks are pulled over with flashing lights. Drivers must slow to 70 km/h or less in zones posted 80 km/h or higher, and 40 km/h or less in zones below 80 km/h. Most tickets were issued in Central B.C., with 619 handed out in areas including Kelowna, Kamloops, Merritt, and Clearwater.
Ramen Danbo is opening another Vancouver spot. 🍜
Get ready for more lineups, as a new Ramen Danbo is coming soon to 3982 Main St. in Vancouver. The popular ramen chain says preparation is already underway, with more details expected to be revealed soon. For anyone who knows how packed their other Vancouver locations get, this one will probably be busy fast.
Vancouver is trying to save the Caps. ⚽️
According to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, over 400 businesses have pledged to help keep the Vancouver Whitecaps in town by signing an open letter. The campaign is aiming to assist "the club bridge its current revenue gap," and asks businesses to lend a hand in that commitment. But with a Las Vegas bid already in for the Whitecaps, uncertainty remains for the team.
Canada’s Snowbirds could be grounded. ✈️
The iconic aerobatic team may pause flights starting in 2027 due to concerns around its aging jet fleet. If that happens, the Snowbirds could disappear from major air shows and national events across the country for years. An update is expected May 19.
Get ready to make a splash! 💦
Outdoor pool season starts this weekend in Vancouver. New Brighton Pool and Second Beach Pool will open May 16.
Swim times must be booked through Showpass, with the first reservations opening Wednesday, May 13 at noon. After that, sessions can be booked three days in advance. The city recommends reserving ahead because only 25% of spots are saved for drop-ins, meaning entry is not guaranteed if demand is high. Maple Grove and Hillcrest outdoor pools are expected to open later on June 15.
