@cowboymalfoy rides into the big smoke, New York City, to answer a call that turns his night around, and around, into an unhinged carnival ride, in ‘Rockabye’. 👋🎡
Written at the start of some kind of international viral outbreak, ‘Rockabye’ is a song about escaping the status quo, with Malfoy stuck in their room (away from their usual vices), and forced to think about the cycles they had been stuck in.
“Over the last 3 years, I sat on these ideas, conceptualising the music video with director
@jackmcgrath0 , until serendipity struck in NYC”, explains the artist. “Through the streets of New York, we wanted to translate the sinister vibrance of dependency that’s inherent in the song. Shooting across Coney Island, shipping ports, under railways, and rooftops, we wanted to capture the Bohemian Rhapsody-esque nature of the composition.”
“On the surface, Rockabye is an upbeat pop/dance track. But the more I listened the more I noticed a strange, dark edge to it”, explains music video director Jack. “This felt like a good opportunity for exploring the highs and lows of being a young artist.
“My biggest inspiration is always the song. But I never want to duplicate or adapt the song through the video, or translate any ideas too literally. A good music video goes deep into the song and then reinterprets the core ideas. It exists in a parallel to the song. Both in harmony and juxtaposition to it. You need both for there to be any alchemy.”
With the viddy dropping in full this Saturday, we can’t wait to see how Cowboy Malfoy fans will react to this absolute mind bender!
