Anemone is out now in UK cinemas. Here's the fruits of our labours on Ray's Hut, from first site visit in June up until first shoot day in September ➡️
Designer Chris Oddy wanted us to build the hut in the same way Ray would over the 20 year period. This wasn't a drawing heavy job, it was a job spent mostly at local reclamation yards and down on site putting as much detail into the build as we could, with all hands on deck. Most of this wasn't seen but we gave Daniel all the tools for Ray's world to play with. The original shell of the house was stumbled upon on the second day of scout recces and the crew fell in love with it.
Dom Pike's construction team came in to build the sub floor and main structure, then worked patiently with us to clad the building in used correlated metal and plastic sheeting, windows and doors made of recycled material, plaster and scenic paint the interior with straw adobe plaster, and panel it with more reclaimed wood. They then had the job of recreating all this in exactly the same way on the sound stage at Aria Studios including taking squeezes of the brickwork.
@floydisms amazing set dec and props team added all the finishing touches including the amazing wood burner and the straw filled Hessian sacks - the perfect real atmos for the shooting frames and a lovely home for all the mice we found on the strike.
The weather blessed us during the build and battered us during the shoot. GFX green team did an incredible job on making the site accessible for crew and covering up their tracks during the shoot. They grew vegetables in the patches, tirelessly chopped wood, and sourced an enormous amount of anemones out of season. And of course brought our very special potting shed to life.
An absolute blessing to call this very special location in Anglesey a workplace.
Anemone celebrated its premiere last night at New York film festival. Incredibly proud of all the hard work that went into this in North Wales and North West of England.
Shout out to all the amazing Art, Set Dec, Props, Greens and Construction Department who created some incredible work and brought all this together. DDL back on the big screen swinging an axe, what more could you want 🌼
