⚖️ so: I’ve been working full time in music for a wee while now and wanted to re-introduce myself… Through my 20s, I toured in bands and worked in recording studios while “balancing” this with law school and then a career as a big, swinging accountant. In 2024, I decided to take the plunge and follow The Dream. For years, I’d dreamt of using our beautiful studio @lostoscillation & the skills I’d gained as a musician and producer to help more people create the music they want to create. Since then I’ve been a busy working bassist/ producer/ teacher/ songwriting partner/ music-base-hanger-about-er. I’ve already been blessed to work with some amazing artists on some great recordings and am really excited about what the future holds. I love everything about helping artists discover their sound, turning rough demos into polished tracks, and helping to support releases. In March 2025 we hosted our first headline show at Voodoo Rooms. We were joined by many of our favourite local musicians, the night was lit and engineered by the best team and was attended by the warmest crowd of our lives. The whole party was documented by talented videographers and photographers and has been edited into a feature film that is scheduled for release in September 2025. To our amazement, not only did the show sell out, but we had a bunch of people unable to attend due to the sellout. For this reason, we decided it was time to aim even higher. So, we’ve booked our next headline show at The Liquid Room [21 March 2026]. With a capacity of 650, this one feels like a leap of faith. However, when we announced the show exclusively to the attendees at the end of our Voodoo headline, within 24 hours the super early bird tickets were all sold out. We’re onto ‘early bird’ now, and those seem to be flying too... We’re going to up the production values even further on this one (a tall order - the last show had 14 musicians on stage, quadraphonic sound and projections!) The money from your ticket will go directly to making this a truly spectacular show and a night to remember. Why are you always like this? 😮‍💨 (Etc)” Jack: [plays this] You be the judge… On the day of recording, unplanned and unannounced Jack switched from his usual @mcintyreguitars bass (6 strings, frets, jazz bass) & grabbed the 1982 ibanez (4 strings, nae frets, P-bass). Different bass, different solo, different song. So this is the first @slow_karma_ release with a bass solo, and also the first with a fretless bass.

🔂 “Price Check” doesn’t sound quite like anything else… The instrumental is a live 10-piece jazz band, playing a composition inspired by a beat made 10-years earlier on a second hand MPC. The band saw @jurnalistmte on instagram rapping “4AM In Edinburgh” shortly after he had moved to Scotland. They were blown away by the lyricism and immediately know that Jurn would be amazing on this beat. The results were beyond even wildest imaginings… It has been a labour of love, literally *years* in the making and we are delighted to share it with you. X

PRICE CHECK is OUT NOW!!! The new single from Slow Karma is their biggest yet, and is the first to feature vocals, being blessed by bars from Jurnalist. The instrumental was more than 10 years in gestation at Lost Oscillation before being picked up by the band, who then tightened it late on Sunday nights at the jazz bar to get it ready to be tracked live with extended family coming through to lay in horns and percussion. 🇪🇸 “Asturias” by Isaac Albinez has been one of my favourite pieces since I first heard my guitar teacher play it in high school… 💛 It was my great good fortune to spend the first few weeks of 2025 in Southern Spain, resetting, reconnecting, and falling in love all over again with the nylon-strung guitar. 🌳 L & I stayed in a wee cabin near Malaga for a few days and I decided that was the perfect opportunity to make a start on learning this spellbinding piece… (it still has so much to teach me…!) ❤️ I am back in Edinburgh now, in many ways a new man, in a new life. I am grateful for every minute I get to spend playing.
