Several protesters were arrested after attempting to gather for a pro-Palestinian demonstration at Berlin’s Hermannplatz yesterday. Several pro-Palestinian rallies have been banned by local authorities over the last few months due to the alleged risk of violence and anti-Semitic chants.
The events come in the wake of a massive upsurge in violence between Israel and Gaza, after militants broke into southern Israel and killed hundreds of people on what they call Operation al-Aqsa Flood. Israeli forces in turn responded with a bombardment and siege of Gaza, where hundreds were also killed.

Thousands gathered at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on Saturday, calling for a stop to weapons deliveries to Ukraine and for negotiations with Russia over the ongoing war. The protest was organized by Linke Party politician Sahra Wagenknecht and Women's rights activist Alice Schwarzer, but drew controversy due to its apparent endorsement by right-wing figures, and by many who view their policies as a form of appeasement to Russia.

Thousands of people marched through Berlin on Sunday, to mark three years since the 2020 rightwing terrorist attack in Hanau. 43-year-old Tobias Rathjen targeted members of Germany’s migrant community in a racist attack that left nine dead, and later drove home and murdered his mother before killing himself. Prior to the attack, he published a manifesto detailing his racist beliefs.
