After this year’s Notting Hill Carnival, we’re revisiting the film we made last summer with Genesis Mas (
@genesiscarnivalarts ). A portrait of
@symonewilliamsofficial and her family’s connection to Carnival, carried from Trinidad to London across generations.
Born out of colonial resistance, Carnival is a living archive. A space where memory, identity, and lived experience converge. It's where celebration becomes a form of creative resistance, and legacy is passed down through costume, sound, and movement.
For Symone, that legacy began with her father, who made costumes in Trinidad before moving to England. Today, she continues that tradition through her work with Genesis Mas.
This film is a tribute to Carnival as both cultural ritual and personal inheritance.
