We introduced two pieces of legislation to make it easier to find and secure affordable housing for renters with pets. No one should have to choose between their family and their home, and we know pets are a part of that family. HB2475 would prohibit landlords from charging tenants an upfront or ongoing pet rent and would limit the cost of pet deposit. HB2476 is a bipartisan bill which would help domestic violence victims keep their pets and receive compensation to cover pet relocation expenses. We need legislation to assuage the fears of how family pets could be treated in domestic violence situations. We can alleviate a major source of stress for people and pets who are escaping abuse. Housing should be more accessible to people with pets so they can stay together. Pets are beloved family members and should not be seen as an obstacle to affordable housing.

Tens of thousands of advocates came to Harrisburg this week to fight for a Pennsylvania that’s more affordable, safer, healthier, and happier for all of us. A commonwealth where kids get the education they deserve because it is fully funded. A commonwealth where workers are paid a fair wage in a safe work environment. A commonwealth where everyone has a home they can afford- where all of their loved ones can join them, pets included. Thank you to everyone who showed up and supported the legislation that imagines a Pennsylvania as it should be. @lwvlancasterpa @ppadvocatespa @humane.pa @lungforce @paschoolboards @hempfieldsd @pealcenter (And happy belated to Lucy Dacus, this one’s for you.)

When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, her union stood with her and stood up for our family. That’s what labor does - protect workers and their families - and that’s always where I’d rather be standing. This May Day, we’re proud of our record of standing with labor, but even more excited to build that future with you.

Yesterday, the House Judiciary committee voted to advance my bill to decriminalize homelessness and moved us one step closer to a Pennsylvania where no one can be arrested for sleeping outside. We know that the number of unhoused individuals is at a level unseen since the Great Depression. We also know that we have the resources to solve this problem and make sure everyone has a place to sleep at night. The next step is for my colleagues in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to vote on the bill. Make sure they know you want a Commonwealth that takes care of our most vulnerable neighbors, not criminalizes them. Ad always, I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to work with @senatorsaval on finding real solutions to make Pennsylvania a place that’s more affordable, safer, healthier, and happier for all of us.

Happy Earth Day 🌎 🌱 Mother Earth is counting on us to take care of her, so we can pass her constitutionally protected gifts of clean air, clean water, and fertile land to our Commonwealth’s children. Get your hands dirty today, and everyday, to protect our home. #earthday #compost #protecttheearth

Our theory of change lies in having person-to-person conversations that dismantle fear and division within our community. When we can have open conversations without judgement, stigma, or fear -relying on empathy- we can learn more about the lived experiences of our neighbors and begin the process of long lasting political change in Lancaster. This Spring, we will be launching a rigorous and intentional deep canvassing program throughout the county, and we need your help to talk to the people who most need connection. Join us for a comprehensive training on deep canvassing in which we will cover - what is deep canvassing, what is our goal - who are we talking to - engaging in deep listening - practice the script - emotional intelligence and nonverbal communication skills - how to pivot conversations We’ve already held two trainings this month and we’ve had so much demand that we’re adding a third! Join us (and Abby) on April 26th at 11am to learn how to talk to neighbors about what matters most. Sign up on mobilize!

Earlier this week, we took the next step toward making sure no one is denied housing based on how they pay their rent. Ending source of income discrimination is one of the easiest ways we can help make sure people have housing stability. Everyone should have a place to live and I’m going to keep working to help make that a reality.

It’s really that simple, actually. I’m introducing legislation to ban conversion therapy in Pennsylvania because everyone should be able to live authentically and without fear of losing their agency. The least we can do for LGBTQ+ young people across the commonwealth is put protections into law.

No matter who you are or who you love, you should be able to find affordable housing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. That includes families where some members of the family are furrier than others. We’re introducing legislation that would put a limit on things like pet deposits and pet rents so no one is priced out of keeping their family safe and warm and together under the same roof. #nationalpetday #nationalfairhousingmonth #fairhousing

Gloria Anzaldúa told us, “Do work that matters. Vale la pena.” And I’m trying to live up to that. Thank goodness there are so many of you showing how it’s done.
