Another gown for the Victorian Dressmaker volume 3, here modelled by the regal @sayhellojess_ ! It is always interesting to take a fashion plate, something that is imagined and that in most cases had never been made, and try to make it work - and this case was even more tricky. The unusual skirt was the crux of the matter here - the drapery needed good 3 mock ups before I arrived at the shape that worked. Then it was a compromise - do i sew the pleats in, or just attach loosely? looks great on the picture if it is structured - but most likely very limiting in movement, especially for a ball gown. Then - if only anchored, do i press them - knowing that with movement the press will not last long in the same place. and lined or not? again question of looks versus pragmatic issues ( dancing) - this was a very interesting project! The longest part of any design here is not actually making it - but thinking, mocking up, rethinking, then checking which fabrics will work etc. once all that is worked out, putting it all together doesn’t take too long! I am going to see if i can get a few photos in it , and the it will be up for grabs...

Something special! I have decided to say goodbye to my absolutely favourite Burgundian gown, all handstitched and in rare and stupidly expensive fabric - I haven’t worn it for years, I don’t do that many medieval events, and it really deserves a better life.
Also ( probably a deciding factor - my forearmsarer feeling a tad tight in it!) All information and measurements in the lising, please check carefully!

Yesterday was another busy day- a photo shoot first then breakfast in the @thepumproomrestaurant - and more photos, then a rush to the @bathboatingstation to get to our boats- and then relaxing on the water. We did take a risk as the forecast was for thunderstorms, but in the end they held out till much later! after rowing, there was time for a more leisurely wander back and a very late lunch… Then we collapsed and tried to rest a bit before driving back today…. What a weekend!
