I'm a Doctor!! This month I passed my viva with no corrections!! It's still sinking in!
As the acknowledgements acknowledge, I wouldn't have finished this thesis without a large community of people's love, support, time, expertise and effort. Thank you to my examiners Kate Hardy and Hannah Field, and my supervisors Melanie Richter-Montpetit and Sam Solomon.
My core goal was for the project to properly academically credit the decades of organisational work carried out by UK-based SW groups, in particular the ECP, SWARM, and SCOT-PEP. As I argue, such SW groups have been developing a path-breaking feminism that academics still too often ignore. I hope this is changing and that this will contribute to that shift.
I wrote it across 8 years > scroll to the end for a freshfaced photo of me on first day of PhD life.
And stay tuned for imminent exciting news about Choke!
20 pictures of beautiful birthday genius @d.anjoux , but it should be 30 because they are 30 today! Artist, filmmaker, academic, possessor of inspirational levels of emotional intelligence. Knowing loving being friends with this cultural icon is an endless joy, 30 more years plz.
Small, part furnished double room available in London Fields from July 1st (some flexibility on move in date).
£784 a month.
You: 30+, preference for artists/Marxists/transsexuals, but mostly you are fun, tidy and able to communicate. Sadly no pets.
Us: Ray, Jack and Anju have lived together since 2020, but after many happy years Anju is starting a new chapter of life with their partner. Jack and Ray are both writers and performers, Jack works in a library, Ray just finished a PhD. We have a mix of social and alone time, friends come over but it isn't a party house.
Timeline: This is best suited for someone looking for a short term let as the landlord plans to sell the house in around a year, July 2027. Jack is planning to move out in October and Ray shortly after, so this might also suit someone who’s up for creating their own new house-share group.
Plz share/send to bbs who might be looking.
🚨 Another book announcement alert! 🚨
We’re so excited to be publishing Ray Filar’s CHOKE this October!
CHOKE is a dyke hooker revenge fantasy novella, in which two sex workers fall in love and go on a ruthless murder spree.
When Leila meets Silvia during a booking with Silvia’s longtime client, the infatuation is instant. Silvia is older, glamorous, charming, and has been working for a lot longer than Leila, who is still new to sex work. Later that evening the two run into each other at a hotel bar, and after a messy night of drugs and sex, begin a romantic relationship that takes a turn when they start murdering clients together.
Traversing the spaces of queer East London and the corporate city, Choke is a propulsive and sexy revenge fantasy mash up of black comedy, psychological (un)realism and literary essay that bends tropes and explores the essence of fantasy, from BDSM and kink to wealth and class to bodies and transness. A wild, fun, smart, and pulpy novella that transforms literary traditions and elevates queer writing.
Ray Filar is a writer and theatre-maker based in London.

Emergency: We have just TWO DAYS to raise $1000 to stop Ibrahim’s family from being evicted.
Earlier this month Ibrahim had to take his mother to hospital.
Sadly Ibrahim’s mother has injured feet and was struggling to walk. We were on track to make rent this month before he had to pay for basic medications at extortionate cost.
We appreciate it’s hard to keep donating when times are tight for most of us. But even small amounts make a huge difference.
Even if you can’t afford to donate, will you share with friends and family? Together, we can make a difference!
Search "Help Ibrahim and his family rebuild their lives" on GoFundMe for more.

End of 2025: finally handed in my PhD, floored by total exhaustion, then, taking a significant holiday from work for the first time, writing no applications, generating no creative ideas, being forcibly unproductive and achieving nothing but seeing art with babes, dancing with babes, appreciating many delicious meals with babes, holidaying in Berlin with babe(s), watching TV, reading novels, marinading in political horror, posing in the photogenic 4C mirror box, and endlessly wearing this black latex beret. I'm not a Dr. yet but you can... practice... calling me Dr. Ray.
We need $2k by 18th Dec. Link in bio / stories.
The most recent photos Ibrahim sent me. Their tent blew down in the recent storms. Rent is due on the 18th of Dec for the land the tent is on: Ibrahim is looking every day for somewhere with a roof, if he finds somewhere before the 18th the funds we raise will go to that instead. I know because I see it that there are people pitching tents in the street, or without tents. People up to their waists in flood water. Ibrahim’s mum’s health is deteriorating as it is. They’re all sick because of the cold. The materials to rebuild are sitting in Jordan, or at the border, or being looted by armed groups backed by the gnocidaires. Or sttlers. Sometimes my mind slides off the enormity of the injustice, the enormity of the destruction. Maybe yours does too. This is still real, this is still happening. As in Gza so in Sudan and Yemen and Congo. 1) contribute if you can 2) share this 3) support the hunger strikers 4) don’t stop til the gncide ends which won’t be until the occupation falls.

Including commission, we have $2000 to raise by Saturday - that’s two days away. This is to keep Ibrahim, his parents, brother, sister in law and children on the land they have rented and pitched a tent on. Winter is coming, they need blankets, food, medicine, this $2000 is the bare minimum to prevent them being displaced again. Please help, donate if you can, share, every dollar gets us closer. I've been getting to know @ebrahemm._.a , who is looking after several generations of his family in Gaza, trying to keep them alive, housed and fed. I've been so struck by how kind and considerate he is, surviving brutality no one should face. These photos show him and his nieces and nephew, and the warehouse they're currently living in. Even this is extortionately expensive. If you're going out somewhere nice this week would you consider having one less drink and giving the cost to his fundraiser? Or sharing? It looks like a lot has been raised but every month it only barely covers their survival. Link in bio.
I'm 36 today! It has been a festering binfire of a year, truly the worst, but there were also beautiful parts including:
-My friends, so many of whom stepped up to be there for me when things fell apart, for months checking in on me everyday, demonstrating love as doing, as a continued series of actions.
-The much-complimented IKEA bag that brings an outfit together
-Genuinely becoming hotter with age
-Moving to a nice lil house in a great location, well appointed, etc
-Somehow managing to write a quite good play in the depths of insanity
-The sea
-Reaffirming what matters, knowing what I stand for in apocalyptic times, bcz if you don't have that what do you have!!
-idk if you got this far swipe to the end for a sxy surprise xoxo
