[3/3] Democracy Day 2024 🇳🇬✨

Democracy Day 2024 🇳🇬 - Three days after my birthday in March of 2024, I was received, with warm welcome, by my new friends at @miliki.ng to be their newest Artist in Residence. I’m forever grateful for the calibre of extremely special individuals that recognise what we’re doing here and embrace the uniqueness of our visual approaches. Not knowing what to expect I accepted the charge and title. Myself and the founder would go on to have some of the most enlightening conversations about the necessary reorientation and awakening that is required to occur in our minds and that of our people in order to revive a sense of national pride. We quickly realised that given the trajectory of our past, the current state of our nation is no reflection of where we should be. The stars aligned between myself and MÌLÍKÌ in the most serendipitous way. It is from that alignment of values and beliefs that we have conceived this piece and in the process, a lot of hidden truths have been revealed. It is my hope that we as a people will one day break free from this loop of misery and failure, but in order to do so we must realise a unity of purpose. There is no mountain we can’t climb and no challenge we can’t overcome if we maintain a united front. This time spent studying the concept of Democracy in the context of its adoption by the Nigerian society and the struggles the people have encountered in implementing this foreign system of governance has been a period of immense growth for us, resulting in new found understanding and a reinforcement of identity. I’m grateful to my new friends at MÌLÍKÌ for the push and for igniting a new spark of patriotic optimism in me as I forge ahead with the hopes that we will one day reach our potential.
