Open Screen returns this Thursday, May 7, 6pm-9:30pm. This event brings together Minnesota photographers to share works in progress and speak about the process behind them. Throughout the evening, artists will show their work and talk through the research, testing, revisions, false starts, and decisions that helped shape it. The evening will span a wide range of projects, all still in motion, and offers a chance to experience photography as something unfolding rather than fixed. Come through if you’re a photographer, if you love photography, or if you’re curious about what goes into a project before it feels finished. RSVP in bio. Open Screen invites Minnesota photographers to submit work to be shown at PF on May 7, 2026. This is a chance to share a photography series with a public audience, speak about your process, and take part in a short audience Q&A. The program centers process as much as outcome. We are especially interested in photography that shows how an idea takes shape over time. That could mean sketches, tests, drafts, behind-the-scenes images, research, revisions, false starts, or the visual language that helped bring a body of work into being. Selected photographers will be included in a curated program of images shared via projection and organized by Drew Arrieta @itsdrw . Each artist will have up to 10 minutes total to present their work and speak with the audience. Deadline to submit: April 26, 2026, 11:59 PM What we’re looking for: Photography submissions from Minnesota-based artists whose work offers insight into process. This could include: > work-in-progress series > finished work shown alongside process material > images that document making, experimentation, or revision > projects that reveal how a visual idea developed over time We welcome a wide range of approaches, including documentary, portraiture, conceptual work, archival work, and experimental photography. >>>>> LINK IN BIO TO SUBMIT<<<<<<

hey friends, I want you to be part of my new photo magazine, wider skies. The project explores speculative futurism, not as science fiction, but as a way of noticing the near futures already forming around us. I’m inviting photographers to submit up to four film photographs for the first issue. All experience levels are welcome. I’m interested in photographs that point to possible futures grounded in real life. Images that reflect care, repair, survival, or shared responsibility in everyday life. This might include moments of care, systems at work, quiet adaptation, portraits, unexpected uses of space, or small signs of change already happening around us. You can approach this as literally or as poetically as you’d like. The focus is on the future that already exists in everyday life. Feel free to tag a friend you think should submit. I have a limited amount of Kodak Pro 100 film available for free to anyone who wants to submit but doesn’t currently have access to film. Send me a DM to coordinate. ☁️ Deadline: April 10, 11:59 PM ☁️ Submit through the link in bio or at widerskies.photo This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Feeling deeply grateful and moved to share that together we raised $2,630 through here, horizontal for Community Aid Network, Immigrant Defense Network, and Unidos MN It meant a lot to gather with so many of you. To slow down together, lie on the floor, share a room, and raise funds for our neighbors at the same time. One of my favorite moments was looking around and seeing a few people fully asleep. A deep love and appreciation for all the artists who shared their work, the collaborators who helped shape the space, @carryonhomes for their handmade pillows, and everyone who came through and held the room with us. I hope to do it all again in the fall, hopefully under some colorful tree foliage. Now it’s my turn to lay down. :)

Since Homan and @mngovernor announced an agreement around the partial drawdown of federal agents, the policing has escalated. More arrests. More “unlawful assembly” declarations. More threats against people simply trying to show up for their community. Yesterday, community members set up a community “ICE watch” at Lyndale and 24th St. A space with supplies, food, and support for people showing up, as a form of peaceful presence and mutual care. It wasn’t a riot. It was neighbors. Food, supplies, and a small protected space to keep eyes on what’s happening. The Minneapolis Police Department showed up, threatened arrests, and dismantled it.

Community members gathered outside Target to protest the company’s silence and cooperation with ICE. The retailer donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration and has been allowing ICE staging and abductions on its property. People are being encouraged to call Target at 1-800-440-0680 and tell the company to support local communities and denounce ICE operations.
