We’re all looking at the same thing. We all have to juggle multiple tasks at once. The pressure of being in many places, fulfilling different roles, learning, performing and discovering, can be overwhelming. In the rush of it all, we can feel isolated, like we’re each running a race no one else sees. It feels like we’re ever more bound by systems. Constantly uploading. Constantly comparing. Constantly competing. We keep trying to tell ourselves we’re different. But what if we’re all quite similar? Beneath the surface, there’s a quiet thread that connects us. A kind of stopgap in the noise of life that binds our mutual interests and instincts. The habitual things we all do – eating, sleeping, moving, blinking – are shared rhythms. These simple acts become anchors. Reminders that we’re not alone in the race, even when it feels that way. We’re all busy. We’re all going through something. We’re all longing for connection. We exist on different corners and yet we resist and persist in similar territories. We are everything, everywhere, all at once. And here, we find meaning. Sometimes, we find beauty. To each our own perspective. Same sky, different clouds. We’re all looking at the same thing. “I think beauty is so much more than one, universal ideaI. Everyone has a different relationship to beauty. We can’t expect someone else to feel the same. We can’t ask them to feel beautiful and we can’t tell them that they’re not allowed to feel ugly, that they should look like this or that... and yet we do and that feels weird, that’s what beauty has become. It feels like this wasn’t the way it used to be. It feels like beauty was layered, more about an experience. With friends, or on your own, at your favourite places. Was beauty maybe a feeling instead? That’s what I think about, when I think about beauty. That’s what I’m trying to understand: these moments in-between. In-between getting ready, in-between putting our makeup on, in-between taking our makeup off. I think it’s ok that we see beauty differently. I want to know what you see.” ‘In-between’. Beauty moves in ways we don’t expect. It connects us to a bigger narrative. About identity. It challenges our assumptions. It questions our consumption. We hold onto so many ideas. So many ideals. So many rigid rules. But beauty is so much more. It’s “An irrepressible energy. A wretched boredom. Going somewhere you’re not supposed to. A rebellion stemming from ennui and disaffection. When everything around you is f*cking boring, that’s just permission to make your own fun, even if it means breaking a few rules and bones along the way.” - Carlo McCormick. Velocity and elevation, mischief and magic, gravitational defiance and sudden impact. we get lost in it. we hold onto it. it is beautiful. “POCKET FULL OF SILVER”, a short film by DOP & Editor: @gabehanvey Skaters: @noahfuzi @riwazhere @_negroamigo @j0eleo Set design: @suryadavidwhite

We call them The Cloud Compact. It’s a simple approach to beauty, multi-use products that allow you to get ready in five minutes or less. A Bronzing Powder, a Lip Oil, a Cream Blush. They’re made from Zamac, they weigh about 250grams, some people liken them to a fidget thing or a grounding stone because they feel cool to the touch and slide to open. They’re a conversation starter - can you imagine what people say when you pull this out of your pocket instead of a chapstick? They are designed to be reused and passed down like a modern heirloom, the way makeup used to be like jewellery. We also release an archive range to pay homage to this fact, when the objects we owned were not so easily thrown away. In the last year we’ve had almost 20 copycat brands dupe us, we don’t know where it leaves us. Flattered or tired? This industry is brutal. We try to remind ourselves it can be beautiful.

The other day I pulled out my fluff cloud, which sounds like a weird sentence to say so let me rephrase. The other day I pulled out my lip balm and put it on the table. Suffice to say if this was a chapstick no-one would have said anything. Except that it wasn’t a chapstick. It was Fluff’s refillable Cloud Compact. It’s beautiful. We can say that because it’s a fact. So the person seated across from me said “what’s that? It’s beautiful.” See - fact. I told them about my refillable Cloud Compact and I placed the product in the palm of their hand so that they could feel the weight of it. Something like 200 grams as a matter of (another) fact. It feels cool to the touch, like a grounding stone. A nice reminder or fidget thing, for when you’re feeling fidgety, or anxious about the world being in the state it’s in. Which is another weird sentence to say, or contemplate, that a product could make you feel calm, or safe, or beautiful, when so much about our world does the opposite. Kind of like when we pat a dog or hug a teddy bear or a close friend. We feel connected to something tangible. Something beautiful, something else. How weird, that it’s just a lip oil. But maybe that was our intent, without us even knowing so. Does that disqualify the word? Maybe we wanted our makeup to say something more - something about what we care about, something about what we think about, something about what we hope about.

Thinking about the mental dance between wanting to have “stuff” and knowing we need so little. Between appreciating good design, good material, good messaging and knowing that our greatest appreciation comes simply from spending time in nature, with friends, with people we love. Our outward expression is sometimes an inward obsession, a reflection of what we care about, what we’re scared about, and what we are unsure about. It’s weird to think that thinking about makeup and our consumption of and relationship to beauty could get so deep. But here we are.
