if this film has a heartbeat, it’s because of @its.fruitleather 💓 D. Jean-Baptiste is a composer, recording artist, musician, performer. They’ve played on festival stages and in dirty basements, recorded with long-time friends and been hired by strangers, composed for film, acted in films, watched a film. Born and raised in Chicago, they have deep roots within the city’s music scene playing with a long list of talented, passionate musicians. They currently have a year-long residency at Epiphany Center For the Arts and are traveling overseas to share their music in Europe. They’re so excited to be collaborating on a second project with Eve Wright and on this new adventure with the entire Buy You, The World cast and crew. #independentfilmmaking #chicagocomposers #musicsupervisor #shortfilm #blackfilmmakers

Full video out now on youtube: ‘Listen To This Image Live’ is the first of a four part residency at @epiphanyarts201 by D Jean-Baptiste featuring: Donkey Basketball @donkeybasketbal Mrs. Hands Mukqs @goodwillsmith & Live visuals by Lise Ivanova @liseivanova “This show deals with the process of hesitancy and repression, action potential within neural networks, and death before life has begun.” - D Watching this group build off eachother ideas and feeling the sound and light reverberate through the room inspired me to try to capture some of that energy in this video. Performances like this are conversation and I hope my videos can add to the discussion. That being said, this show was a pleasure to experience in person and I encourage everyone to go catch the next three. This video was filmed and edited by me with additional footage from @shrav.ok Link in bio

Valentine’s Day 2/14, come join us at @recordbreakerschicago The United States is one of only two countries in the world whose pre-trial system is completely dominated by private, for-profit companies. This means that incarcerated individuals not yet convicted of a crime (70% of our total prison population) are forced to pay, on average, $10,000 into the hands of a 2.5 billion dollar industry to be able to exercise their right to remain with family and community while awaiting trial; a process that often takes months and can even take years. [1] Although in 2023 Illinois passed the Pretrial Fairness Act to illiminate cash bail, the terrifying nature of ICE abduction means that many community members, family members, friends, and neighbors are being held in detention out of state. [2] We also know that ICE has made a seven-fold increase in arrests of people without criminal convictions, trapping thousands of innocent people in this system with little hope. [3] This is where The Midwest Bond Fund comes in. The Midwest Immigration Bond Fund is a fully volunteer run non-profit organization that was born in 2019 out of a need to reunite families kept apart by financially prohibitive bail. The MIBF pays out bonds for residents of, and people detained in: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and as of 2025, Minnesota. They work closely with NIJC, ICIRR, and OCAD, and are part of the National Bail Fund Network, a coalition of like minded organizations in direct alignment with their mission. “Our work will only be finished when ICE is abolished, and no one is separated from their families and communities by the cruelty of detention.” [4] On Valentine’s Day, Record Breakers is taking 20% of our sales and donating them to the Midwest Bond Fund. A small gesture in reaction to a broader movement of terror and anguish being felt here in the Midwest and all over the country. As a business with such a vocal and supportive community around us, our hope is that our initiative is informative and encouraging to our friends and customers, and makes a real lasting difference in the life of someone currently in need of dire financial assistance.

Hey guys, D here! Malcolm said I need to let people know what I’m doing so they know what I’m doing. On Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, I play my first of four residency shows at Epiphany Center for the Arts. Each show will be during a different season, featuring a different group of artists alongside myself. This winter, I’m incredibly honored to be working with the talents and insights of musicians Mukqs, Mrs. Hands, Donkey Basketball, and the projection work of Lise Ivanova. As a group we will be exploring notions of hesitancy and repression, action potential within neural networks, and death before life has begun. I would love to see you there! Thank you to Epiphany for trusting me with this opportunity. Thanks to Scott @triggerchicago for this photo of my face.
