Thank you, @michaelabeldeng I will have to write a reply! Reposting @dearopenletters : Issue #104 Michael Abel Deng writes to Elisa Iturbe “Your concept of carbon form did something rare in architectural discourse, in that it named a condition that had been structuring the discipline for two centuries without the majority noticing.” @michaelabeldeng @it_urbe Pick up a copy at the donut or read at openletters-online.com

Thrilled to be part of this event at Syracuse's NYC campus today! The details, from organizer @kylejamesmiller : Today, architectural knowledge is no longer advanced by heroic figures nor by institutions organized around singular agendas. Instead, it emerges through sustained exchange among distinct critical practices—through the collective construction of conceptual, methodological, and representational frameworks grounded in carefully developed design techniques, curated lineages of reference, and explicitly articulated aesthetic positions. Prototypes: Architecture Practices and Projects convenes a focused group of architects to interrogate how the formation of their practices and the deliberate production of intellectually driven projects reconstitutes architecture as a disciplinary project that is continually renegotiated in relation to contemporary cultural conditions, economic opportunities, social issues, and political realities. Participants: Almost Studio Abel Nile New York FORMA Mattaforma New Affiliates operadora Outside Development salazarsequeromedina stock-a-studio Moderated by Kyle Miller. Format: Each office/individual will deliver a 15-minute visual and verbal presentation articulating an explicit intellectual agenda. The presentations will move decisively beyond the instrumental imperatives of professional practice—beyond the logistics of sustaining an office or producing buildings—to address the underlying Project that animates the work. What questions, commitments, or propositions persist across commissions and exceed the limits of any single project? What conceptual, material, political, or representational concerns are being cultivated as a sustained inquiry, and how do they compel continued engagement with architecture as a discipline rather than merely a profession? Each presentation will be followed by 25-minutes of open discussion among the participants.

Delighted to make the trip to San Diego for this, thanks to Manuel Shvartzberg Carrió for the invitation! Reposting @designlabucsd : 📆Join us for Design@Large ! When: Wednesday, May 21 What: “Confronting Carbon Form” by Elisa Iturbe of @harvardgsd The adoption of fossil fuels changed the spatial organization of human society, from the new building typologies invented to structure an emerging working class to the new urban archetypes that developed to meet the demands of circulation and consumption. These are the material building blocks of the fossil economy and the spatial roots of the climate crisis. This lecture will discuss the history of this phenomenon while theorizing, speculating, and imagining where an alternative may be found. 🎟️ Register now through the link in our bio! #design #ucsd #energy #climate #climatechange

Posting an incredible post-doctoral research opportunity at Harvard to be an Environmental Fellow through HUCE (Harvard University Center for the Environment). I am now a Faculty Fellow at HUCE, so you can apply to work with me and I would be your host through the GSD. ⭐️ I would LOVE to have someone to help me continue building my body of work on carbon form, both the theoretical and design aspects.⭐️ Ideally, I would support the application of someone with a PhD in architecture or architectural history, but I would also be open to someone in the energy humanities or related fields. Please message me if you are interested. Deadline on Jan 13. See https://www.environment.harvard.edu/environmental-fellows-program for more details. #carbonform #confrontingcarbonform #postdoc #architectureandclimate #climate #climateresearch @harvardgsd @hucenvironment
