Our next show in May! “This being human is a guest house” exhibiting a group of wonderful artists, we are thrilled to announce this show @medium_rare_projectspace 68 Jay Street Suite 619 DUMBO With artists: @amandacmathis @judy_simonian @waywardnyc @talluts @etty.yaniv @charlesyuenartist Curated by @elisepchurch and @narellesissons This group exhibition brings together painting and sculpture that move through intimate interior spaces. Drawing from life, memory, and material reference, the works form a crepuscular world shaped by form, pattern, and palette. In selecting this group of artists, a common attribute in the work is a human presence. One that lingers and recedes, obscured, anthropomorphic, or peculiar, then vanishes, leaving a charged absence. The artist moves as both visitor and host, like a guest in the world. Each work becomes a site of temporary inhabitation, where spaces often fold inward, images within images, where meaning emerges through suggestion rather than resolve. Gesture meets quiet intimacy as humor and improvisation subtly distort reality, leaving process visible to elusive. These works feel both familiar and unsettled, holding, concealing, and revealing the unexpected. Does a painting suddenly appear, or does it accumulate slowly, layer by layer? Is it built, constructed, or revealed? We are asking these artists to consider this question, “how do you conceive, channel, discover, or shape your work”? The exhibition brings together a wide and surprising range of approaches to image- making. Each artist offers a distinct way of seeking and generating images, resulting in works that are often deeply affecting and that speak to a shared human experience. “Odd Spaces”, 3025 Oil on canvas 16x20” here is another painting that was inspired by my visit to the Rodin’s museum in Paris . Seeing the famous sculpture of “young mother and child”, I was truck by distance, the separation the odd spaces that were depicted between them. Dear Mr. Rodin, I hope no mother holds her child like that.
