The artist-in-residency is transformed into a collective document that honours the hands behind the making, and reclaims visibility for those often left unnamed in the chain of production. Through weaving, dyeing, painting, bleaching and tailoring, collaboration turns into a way of unmantling hierarchies and reclaiming shared authorship. In October 2025, Nazif Lopulissa started his ten-day residency at Studio Sejauh and Craft Denim in Pekalongan, Java. After spending a few days at the workshop, Nazif Lopulissa and Chitra Subijakto, creative designer and founder of Studio Sejauh, began experimenting. In practice, each piece is born from a shared process of exploring and developing. We opened the exhibition of the work Perspectives On… Weaving Threads at @erasmushuis_jakarta on Saturday 1 November, on show until December 24, 2025 This State of Fashion platform programme is curated by @renee.vanderhoek Documentary: @lulu.aan Edit by @rizkyattahasi #perspectiveson #weavingthreads #naziflopulissa #studiosejauh #sejauhmatamemandang #stateoffashion #erasmushuis

Residency Recap: Perspectives On… Weaving Threads Each fabric stands as both object and method. It embodies exchange, connection, and care. Together, Nazif Lopulissa and Studio Sejauh imagine what can be called the independence of cloth, the freedom to produce, think, and create outside extractive systems. The loom, dye pot, and brush become instruments of negotiation, tools through which both artist and artisan reclaim agency and continuity. It reminds us that to decolonize is not to return to the past, but to weave new relationships with what was inherited. Decolonization, then, becomes a practice: every thread a record of touch, every weave a form of thought. The loom becomes a meeting place of times and perspectives, a reminder that to weave is to live, and to live is to remember how to weave. We opened the exhibition of the work Perspectives On… Weaving Threads at @erasmushuis_jakarta on Saturday 1 November, on show until December 24, 2025 With thanks to @lulu.aan for capturing the process as it unfolds. Residency Recap: Perspectives On… Weaving Threads In this collaboration, Nazif Lopulissa joins the dialogue through his reflections of rootedness and belonging. Working with ikat, plant-based dyes such as clove, and layers of hand-painting and bleaching, he transforms material into narrative. The clove, once a symbol of colonial extraction, reappears here as a gesture of care and return. Color shifts with sunlight and humidity, carrying traces of the soil it came from. In Nazif’s hands, pigment becomes memory, each layer of dye and paint a way of rewriting history with tenderness rather than distance. We opened the exhibition of the work Perspectives On… Weaving Threads at @erasmushuis_jakarta on Saturday 1 November, on show until December 24, 2025 With thanks to @lulu.aan for capturing the process as it unfolds. Opening Perspectives On… Weaving Threads at Erasmus Huis, Jakarta We are proud to present the results of Perspectives On… Weaving Threads at @erasmushuis_jakarta . On Saturday 1 November we opened the exhibition with a generous gathering including inspiring talks and presentations from the makers. The collaboration between Nazif Lopulissa (NL) and Studio Sejauh (ID) reminds us that to decolonise is not to return to the past but to weave new relationships with what has been inherited. The clove, once a symbol of Dutch colonial extraction, reappears here as a gesture of care and return. We thank Erasmus Huis for telling these stories with us and shedding light on shared pasts. Above all, this exhibition shows the importance of transparency and collaboration by making each phase of the process visible and actively giving credit to all the highly skilled artisans involved. Read more on our website via the link in bio. The exhibition Perspectives On… Weaving Threads is on show at Erasmus Huis, Jakarta, until December 24, 2025. 📸 @lulu.aan and @erasmushuis_jakarta captured the event #perspectiveson #perspectivesonweavingthreads #stateoffashion #erasmushuisjakarta #naziflopulissa #studiosejauh #sejauhmatamemandang
