Last summer, I took small steps back into making. This summer, I made some more steps again in my garden: drawing, sun printing, embroidering and writing. After the impact of my big little meteorite, my days are slower, ruled by tides of childcare, paid work, and shifting constellations of life. My tools are simple and my gestures reflect the fragmented rhythms of this new landscape.

This what a mother of a toddler looks like in the wild: passed out on a park bench on a Sunday afternoon while partner and son run around in the playground.

Very late post! Thunderclap was exhibited in Tokyo earlier this year in @gallery_alpham in a group show on family abolition and anarcha feminism that had been excluded from the historicization of the feminist movement in the East Asian context. Curated by Multiple Spirits @maru_supi , a Queer Feminist Art Zine/magazine based in Japan and Austria by Mai Endo @iewopua and Mika Maruyama @mikaloompa . Although I couldn't be there physically, I'm grateful that Thunderclap continues to spread 🌏

CRAFTING NEW NARRATIVES | Amy Suo Wu is kunstenaar, ontwerper en docent. ENGLISH | Amy Suo Wu is an artist, designer, and educator. In Serenity Department, she collaborates with her mother Maria Ling Qing Huang, a fashion designer and illustrator. Together, they explore the impact of migration and intergenerational trauma on their relationship by working on repair and healing, both literally and metaphorically, through a method they call stitches. After a visit to the exhibition Good Mom/Bad Mom at the Centraal Museum yesterday, I’m inspired to share some fragmented thoughts on the matter. Finding time for my art practice has been a challenge over the past couple of years since becoming a mother. But within the chrysalis of matrescence, something is shifting—my cells are reconfiguring, reshaping me in every possible way. I’ve been quietly struggling, yet also slowly and gradually forming a new relationship with making. I’m still in the process of uncovering what that means—who I am now, and how to navigate this unfamiliar terrain. I’d like to share a piece from last year that marked a turning point in this unfolding: A wound is the ground on which this body rests (the final piece in collaboration with @hannah.chris.lomans ). Over the summer, I spent time dyeing linen with coffee, leaves, and sticks gathered from my garden. With bleach, I created drawings that lifted the colour from the fabric—revealing scenes from this new chapter of motherhood: soft bodies intertwined, biting kisses, nurturing one’s outer child while tending to the inner one, and the inevitable death of an old self as the seed of a new self emerges. This summer I hope to find time again and continue this unfolding.

I've had the joy to design Life with Fifi, a children's book about a day in the life of @fifi_circus_meisje , a Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix. Written by @krisdittel and illustrated by Angelica Falkeling @angelfalken . Thank you for giving me the space to be playful and intuitive. Published by @_boks.books

Feeling an incredible sense of pride as my mother @maria_l_huang and I share our story of migration—how it has shaped our fate, our paths, and the ways we bridge what was once ruptured. Through drawing, conversation, writing and joss paper craft, we navigate both pain and joy, finding connection in intergenerational mending. Our work Dear Ursula is now on view at Kruispunt: Crafting New Narratives at @wereldmuseum.rotterdam —for the next two years! Also, so happy with the video portrait of our process made by @roel_van_tour , now showing in the exhibition. Curated by @vanessadegruijter and @erdyaykac . Come see it! #intergenerationalmending #motheranddaughter #spectralpublishing #embodiedpublishing #navelexpanding #ghostwriting

Upcoming: Off Margin S2, Ep2: Ghostmending w/ Amy Suo Wu @sudo_wu đŸȘĄ Tues 25 March, 8-9pm @radio.worm For its upcoming episode, Off Margin is thrilled to welcome to the show Amy Suo Wu @sudo_wu whose practice spans the textual seen, unseen, spectral, and labyrinthine. Amy’s recent interest and practice circles around literal and metaphorical approaches of mending, design as remittance and self-fulfilling prophecy, and how text and textile might be woven together to form embodied publishing. She is currently researching intergenerational mending together with her mum Maria Ling Qing Huang under the auspicious title of Serenity Department, where they have embarked on a process that engages with the ruptures of language, distance, sickness, time and culture, torn by experiences of migration and intergenerational trauma. During our episode together, we will be incorporating sonic and written annotation in dialogue with a number of Amy’s written and spoken textual works, weaving real and spectral threads within and between Amy’s own writings, as well as those from a selection of writers who echo related tangents and themes. Through the interlacing of these materials we will delve into the topics of mending as a practice of interdependency, ghostwriting, labyrinthine tactics, coded language, spectral publishing, motherhood and more
To make this episode an extra special one, it is coinciding with the release of Off Margin’s new visual identity, conceptualised and designed by none other than Amy herself. Thanking Amy for the perfect visual accompaniment to the show 💌 Catch our episode Tuesday 25 March from 8-9pm CET on radio.worm. Slide 2 đŸ“· by @roel_van_tour at @wereldmuseum.rotterdam —— Off Margin, the literary radio show with a twist, scratches the writing off the page to explore how text can manifest visually, sonically and texturally, through different formats and spaces, as visual, rhythmic, and performative material. The show incorporates a mix-mash of fragmentary text, performance, short and long-form readings, recorded interview, conversations with guests, sonic annotation, and musical accompaniment.
