𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎: 𝙰 𝙲𝚊𝚜𝚝 𝙾𝚏 𝙲𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚜 “The 250th anniversary celebrations of the birth of John Constable have been mentioned before in @theamericanmag . Now a new exhibition by Colchester + @ipswichmuseums , at Christchurch Mansion in Ipswich, reveals some of the people who helped turn the county of Suffolk into his eponymous ‘Constable Country’. ... Constable was one of the greatest landscape artists ever to put paintbrush to canvas, but how did the son of a merchant rise to such heights of artistic fame and legacy? ... With over 100 works and objects, including portraits, sketches and landscapes by the artist himself and others, Constable: A Cast of Characters will delve deep into the background characters of Constable’s life; from family to early supporters recognizing his talent, and the friends and patrons that sustained him during his long career. ... Although landscape painting was his main love, in his early career Constable undertook portrait commissions out of financial necessity. ... The exhibition space itself will enable visitors to step into Regency Ipswich as Constable would have known it, with photographic re-enactments, objects, period fashion, costumes and uniforms, and a recreation of the Constable family’s parlor complete with letters. … New works by internationally acclaimed sculptor Sasha Constable (b.1970) - a direct descendant of the artist - will also be displayed….” Read more about Constable: A Cast of Characters, including dates, in Issue 810 by clicking the link in our bio or stories, head to and click ‘Library’, or click /The-American-Issue-810-p18 #theamericanmagazine #theamericanmag #theamerican #constable #art

Check out @sashaconstable_artist brilliant artwork at our Constable: A Cast of Characters exhibition! 🙌 Sasha Constable is an international sculptor and a direct descendant of John Constable himself. Her work centres around stone carving, alabaster, limestone and bronze. Sasha combines technical precision with expressive form to capture the delicacy of human and environmental experience. Her sculpture pictured, "Painting is but another word for feeling" is a relief-style portrait of John Constable derived from a youthful self-portrait he sketched. Alongside the portrait is a quote attributed to him to complement his artistic philosophy. You can see more of Sasha's talented work by visiting Constable: A Cast of Characters, head to our website to book your tickets, just click the link in our bio! 🔗
