NEW: This Monday, IPS scholar Phyllis Bennis laid bare the costs of U.S. militarism in Washington, D.C. with stark statistics published by IPS @nationalpriorities researchers. At the National Moral Monday Coordinated Peace Rallies organized by @brepairers , Bennis and other speakers gathered to to challenge a nation that “continues to spend billions on war while people suffer at home and abroad,” standing against what organizers call the “normalcy of destruction.” 🔗 Watch more at the link in our bio.

On Friday, over 40 activists shut down multiple intersections in downtown DC during rush hour demanding an end to oil and gas lobbying. 💪 The American Petroleum Institute (API) and American Gas Association (AGA) are responsible for securing protections and tax breaks for the companies actively devastating our planet, poisoning our communities, and exploiting their workers. We will not stand by while these lobbying associations continue to lie to the public and support Big Oil’s destruction, all to line the pockets of billionaires. May Day actions on Friday made up the largest 1-day strike we’ve seen in 80 years, and our movement is only growing larger and more noncooperative until we win a better future for all. 💰NEW: Congress moves one step closer in securing up to $140 BILLION more for ICE and Border Patrol, even though the mass detention and deportation machine has already been given $170 BILLION over the course of multiple years. 🌍 If we defund the agencies directly harming our communities, that money could go to things we really need, including programs that have faced deep cuts like Medicaid, and towards a just transition as we continue to experience more disasters year after year. ❌ Defund any present and future dollars for ICE and Border Patrol NOW.

On this day in 1967, when the U.S. was deep in war in Vietnam, Dr. King, Jr. gave a powerful speech against it at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Nearly 60 years later, it rings just as true. “Those who are seeking to make it appear that anyone who opposes the war in Vietnam is a fool or a traitor or an enemy of our soldiers is a person that has taken a stand against the best in our tradition.” #NoWar #OTD #MLK #Vietnam #Iran

A vast and growing number of people across the country are deeply concerned about the proliferation of data centers to power AI and Big Tech. 🚫🤖 Listen to Basav Sen, the Climate Justice Project Director at the Institute for Policy Studies, talk about some of the problems with data centers, and check out the link in the bio for more information. The rapid build-out of AI data centers impacts us all. It is imposing hidden environmental, economic, and cultural costs across communities and states even if they are not located directly in your neighborhood. The impact is exacerbated and often hits Indigenous peoples and Tribal Nations, Black, Latinx, Asian Pacific Islander, and poor and rural white communities the hardest, very often without transparency, consent, or adequate legal safeguards. #DitchTheDataCenters
