ā€˜Intricate’ by Marit Geraldine Bostad. 103 x 103cm Framed DM for enquiries. Marit is a Norwegian abstract expressionist painter. Working from a disused naval base an hour’s drive south of Oslo, she draws major inspiration from the surrounding nature and memories of a childhood visiting the remote Norwegian isles and dramatic, steep-walled fjords around Vestandlet, Western Norway. Having studied Art Direction at Westerdals School in Oslo, she originally worked for 10 years as an art director for commercial projects and clients, working with film and illustration, before stepping into her very successful art career on a fulltime basis. Her creative process is characterized by different layers of paint in contrast with each other through gestures and mark making. The end result is a striking but texturally satisfying combination of movement and colour on canvas, and the creation of unique, vibrant and emotional paintings. She describes her works as ā€œintuitiveā€. Bostad has exhibited in renowned galleries in Oslo, London, New York and Los Angeles, and sat in residency at ESKFF MANA Contemporary in New York in summer 2018.

ā€˜By the Grace of My Shadows’ by @natachabisarre 120 x 150cm framed. DM us for any info on Natacha’s available works. Natacha is a Belgian abstract expressionist artist whose works are heavily influenced by movement and focuses predominantly on the physicality of painting. Movement has always been very important to Bisarre, having trained and practised as a professional dancer for several companies, including the Royal Opera House. Her compositions are a balance between freedoms and limitation and deeply rooted in her dance background, where the tension of discipline and freedom of movement was always present. Using a combination of pools of colour and intricate markings, she depicts this paradox of a dancer’s reality. Natacha’s processes are driven by impulse and can change from artwork to artwork but is consistently in response to her chosen tools and materials. Whatever the initial trigger or idea, her selection of tools is determined from a sensory perspective and she rarely knows in advance how the final piece will look. Playing with fluid materials allows Natacha to have ā€˜conversations’ with her works, responding to them as much as to her own ideas. The final layers of her paintings include finer lines and markings which create the punctuation to her ethereal and striking works.

Welcoming Dan Herlihy (@danherlihy.artist ) to Interrupted Art. We’re tremendously excited to welcome Dan as one of a series of new talent additions to Interrupted Art over the coming weeks. His works will be available to purchase, and also available for Interrupted Art members to try at home. Dan is a London-based contemporary painter whose work explores the intersection of atmosphere and abstract form. Following a first-class degree in the arts, he established a career as an Art Director on Oscar-winning film productions. This background in visual storytelling continues to inform his studio practice. Working primarily in acrylic, he employs brush, palette knife, and wedge to build and disrupt the surface, creating a layered, textural finish. His work is defined by restrained, earthy palettes and elongated forms, using subtle shifts in colour, scale, and light to create tension and presence. His practice centres on opposing forces. The Horizons works explore moments where elements meet and resist, with small variations in tone or balance carrying significant weight. ā€œI’m drawn to earthy palettes for their primal quality. In film, a slight shift in light or form can change the entire feeling of a scene. I look for that same sensitivity in painting, creating an atmosphere that suggests a story without fully revealing it.ā€ Dan’s work sits between the grounded and the abstract, capturing fragments of a larger narrative. Do get in touch with a member of the @interrupted.art art team for further enquiries.

So great to continue our curation partnership with the lovely team at @aucoot - putting together some choice artwork collections for the owners of this gorgeous property overlooking Clapham Common, currently on the market for Ā£3.5m. Do get in touch with the Aucoot team for more details if interested. A while ago now we visited @rebeccahardakerartist in her studio, to discuss her work and inspiration from classical texts. But rather than sticking to your average studio tour we grabbed our coats and went to a local book shop to experience the inspiration process ourselves. Hope you enjoy this sneak preview. We’ll publish the whole visit on YouTube soon. šŸ–¼ļø Artist: @rebeccahardakerartist šŸ“ø Video: @willabarry šŸŽžļø Editor: @_sarahtocci 😬 Repetitve ramblings: @benjcrosland

CURATION NOTES: @katherine_ormerod Edition Last week Interrupted Art’s @scroslgoss co-hosted a dinner party with the one and only Katherine Ormerod in her home, at her very kind invitation. To celebrate the power of art to change a space, Stephanie curated the formal reception room, sitting room and the dining room seen in these photos. 3,4 & 5: We drew inspiration from Katherine’s existing use of large scale tapestry in her formal reception room alcoves, opting for two large @natachabisarre pieces alongside works by @rebeccahardakerartist and @aisling_drennan_art , bringing a sense of impact and sophistication as a backdrop for arrival drinks and canapĆ©s. 8, 9 & 10: We used an @a.gaiad piece Katherine had previously bought from us as the anchor for a more playful sitting room, complementing it with another Aline piece, and strong figurative pieces from @rusty.studio_ and @davidhorganart . 11, 12 & 13: The dining room needed the most coordination with the ever-important table scape. We specially sourced and transported a large scale Rebecca Hardaker oil piece with real flowers embedded on the canvas to match the table flowers we had arranged by @maisonmaioli . To complement the colour schemes at play we also hung an antique-framed @canarycarlo collage and a more modern @p_bod_ piece. We’re so grateful to Katherine (ā¤ļø) for bringing such an amazing group of people into her home for us, @marinabeau for working with us on a lovely menu for the evening, and @ellecalvey for capturing the moments so tastefully.

Last week I had the ridiculous pleasure of hosting the most beautiful group of girlfriends at my home to celebrate @interrupted.art The boundary breaking art rental and ā€˜try before you buy’ business was set up by @scroslgoss and her husband @benjcrosland in 2022. After a career procuring works for the Tate, Stephanie saw there was this gaping hole in the art market for buyers who wanted to be introduced to artists, but didn’t have Ā£100k building interest in the bank. Interrupted Art was born from a desire to give buyers confidence and guidance and to let them know experiment and have fun with art. Pieces are placed into your home and then rotated every 10 weeks - though as I can bear witness, it can be incredibly hard to let perfect works go! Seeing my house as a gallery to showcase so many incredible works just made me think… I need to buy more art 🤣 The IA collection is now live for subscribers to the monthly service to choose from - head to the website to have a little scroll. As to the dinner, I’d love to say it was as seamless as it looks here but my babysitter cancelled at 4pm and Hade was in Paris so I was trackies when the bell started ringing, still trying to coax the kids into bed. I hadn’t done 16 things I’d planned and I had a silent cry. Thankfully @marinabeau was waving her magic wand in the kitchen and my rock @ellecalveycreative was multitasking with the camera while plating up. And in the end it was just such a good time ā™„ļø Final special thanks to florist @maisonmaioli for the perfect finishing touches. Stephanie you’re amazing! Hope that IA keeps growing from strength to strength, you deserve every success ā™„ļøā™„ļø
