International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)
May 17, marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT). We stand in unwavering, universal solidarity.
🗓️ Our History is Our Strength: On this day in 1990, the World Health Organization (WHO) took the monumentally important step of removing homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases, finally correcting decades of pathological stigma. This historic win was not guaranteed; it was won by tireless activists.
✊ A Universal Crisis: We must acknowledge our reality. While laws and disease clarifications have changed, we are witnessing a systematic and brutal rollback. Our human rights are being attacked all over the world, from regressive legislation to rising physical violence, particularly targeting our trans, gender-diverse, and non-binary communities.
🖤 This Year’s Theme: At the Heart of Democracy. This is not a request; it is a declaration. No true democracy can function if it fails to protect, equity, and prioritize the fundamental rights of all its people. If we are excluded, democracy is failing.
👉 InterPride’s Message to the World: Be vigilant. Be safe. Organize. Support local, intersectional grassroots movements. Demand universal protection.
Honor those who protested before us. Defend the future for us.
Human Rights are Universal.

Trans+ history is global history. This Trans+ History Week, InterPride and the Global Trans Task Force are amplifying the voices of trans, nonbinary and gender diverse people from every corner of the world.
Our roots run deep. Long before western medical terms existed, indigenous communities globally revered gender diverse individuals, from the Hijra community in the Indian subcontinent to two spirit people in North America. We honour pioneers like Roberta Cowell in the UK and those at the 1919 Institute for Sexual Science in Germany who paved early paths for gender affirming care. We also stand on the shoulders of the trans women of colour who ignited the modern liberation movement at Compton's Cafeteria and Stonewall.
We celebrate monumental global victories, like South Africa's 2003 legal protections, Argentina's 2012 gold standard self determination laws, and the World Health Organisation's 2019 declassification of gender incongruence. Yet, from the streets of Europe to intense legislative battles in the US, our community is facing unprecedented global pushbacks.
But let us be completely clear: our solidarity is infinitely stronger than their hate. We honour the trailblazers who came before us by continuing their relentless fight today. Human rights are never permanent; they are won and defended by everyday people choosing to take a stand.
Swipe through to see how the global trans community is resisting, surviving and thriving.
Call out regressive laws. Support local frontline organisations. Be a true active ally.

🌈 From 20 to 26 April, InterPride is shining a brilliant spotlight on Health and Wellbeing.
Building on a legacy that started in 1990 and surged back to life in 2020, this week is a high energy tribute to the incredible lives of lesbians and women who love women everywhere.
This year, we are focusing on the unique health disparities and systemic challenges our community faces globally.
By highlighting mental health, physical wellness, and the absolute necessity for safe, inclusive healthcare environments, we seek to empower individuals to thrive despite political landscapes that target our rights.
The week includes Wellness Wednesday on 22 April, focusing on restorative practices like nature walks and community gatherings, and the Coast to Coast Queereoke on 23 April, uniting lesbian bars worldwide in a night of music and joy. The week concludes on 26 April with International Lesbian Visibility Day.
Through these events, we reinforce a legacy of intersectional solidarity, ensuring that every facet of the community is seen, heard, and celebrated!
Visibility is not a privilege. It is a necessity. It is action. It is political.
Swipe through to read powerful, intersectional reflections from global leaders across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, and Oceania. 👉✨
Let us build a future where no one is invisible. 🌍

9th April Sapphic Visibility Day! 💖✨
InterPride stands in proud solidarity with the entire sapphic community.
While the identity has existed for centuries, it has truly thrived and evolved in the modern era since the 2010s. The term itself stems from the legendary 6th-century BCE Greek poet Sappho, famous for her beautiful verses about love and desire between women. Fast forward to 2017, and thanks to increased visibility, hashtags, and indie creators, the word experienced a magical resurgence. Today, it is bigger and more inclusive than ever!
So, what does it mean now? Sapphic is a beautiful umbrella term for the sexuality and romantic attraction of queer women, non-binary, trans, and gender non-conforming folks who are attracted to each other. Think of it playfully as the "ABCD" (Anything But Cis Dudes) of the LGBTQ+ world representing those who love outside the scope of cisgender men.
As our community’s expression of identity continues to move forwards, we recognise and honour the brilliant diversity, resilience, and profound impact of sapphic individuals within our global Pride family.
Your visibility is powerful, and your voices are essential. Let’s continue to uplift and celebrate sapphic stories today and every day. 🏳️🌈

InterPride Condemns SCOTUS Conversion Therapy Ruling: A Call for Global Action
On March 31st, the Transgender Day of Visibility, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) made the appalling decision to protect the dangerous practice of so-called "conversion therapy" in an 8-1 ruling (Chiles v. Salazar). The Court chose to ignore major medical organizations and failed to protect LGBTQI+ youth from known harm, abuse, and discredit.
This White House regime's anti-queer rhetoric, a direct assault on our dignity, reverberates globally. But they are mistaken if they think this will silence our anger or defeat us.
Instead, this lights a fire.
InterPride stands in GLOBAL UNITY to ensure no person, especially queer youth, is subjected to this quackery. We demand LEGAL EQUITY. We must continue EMPOWERING DIVERSE LEADERSHIP across the globe to fight this fear and prejudice.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, in her lone dissent, noted the "medical profession's broad consensus that this medical treatment ... is ineffective and harmful," warning of "grave harm to Americans’ health and well-being."
Let’s double down and commit to the continued celebration of everyone living as their authentic selves.
Take Action Now:
📢 Speak up and speak out! Spread awareness far and wide.
💰 Donate to legal organizations pushing to overturn this decision.
✊ Join peaceful protests in the streets.
🏳️🌈 Rally our allies from all corners of the world!
We will build a world where fear and prejudice do not oppress us.
