This is the last piece in the new triptych I created for the Speed Art Museum. This tableau was inspired by a mirror mosaic that my grandfather made in an arch-shaped alcove of his house. I began to think of the arch as a window or portal to a place I am physically unable to reach. The candelabra is decorated in saffron crocus flowers, a reference to receiving saffron as a gift from family.

It’s my birthday today and I’m celebrating a little extra because I’ve got some big news! I’m moving to Northern California 🌞 to be a tenure-track Assistant Professor and the Coordinator of Glass at Chico State! In just a couple of months, I’ll be living across the country in Chico. I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to try something totally new!
I’ve taught at Tyler for the past 9 years and will miss everyone there so much, especially my Tyler Glass family. Special thanks to all my Philly friends and colleagues for being so supportive and excited for me 💖💖💖 I don’t think I’ll get thru the moving and flying away part without crying (lol) but thankfully I am from around here so I will be back!

I’m very proud of this project which brings together components spanning ten years of my career. I thought that everyone, no matter who you are or where you’re from, could relate to the feeling of having a loved one far away. Love will always surpass the distance. ❤️🔥

Thank you William Ganis @drdadaloplop for writing a very thoughtful article about my work for the winter issue (181) of Glass Quarterly @glassquarterly ~ the magazine is available in print and online.
William came to my show opening and artist talk at the Speed Art Museum @speedartmuseum where I had the chance to meet him and share some insight about my installation for the Adele & Leonard Leight Award. In the article he also discusses other recent projects, my inspiration and research, and my role as an educator. He really captured the mood and complexities of my work so well in his writing.

In 2016 I made my thesis show, wrote a thesis paper and graduated with my MFA. All my friends were in the studio around the clock making their shows too. At Pilchuck it was the summer of the purple wig and the flameworked flamingo. When I returned my station wagon broke down and I sold it to a mechanic in Richmond before going on my first artist residency. At the end of 2016, I moved back to Philadelphia.
So much happened for me this year! Making and showing work a lot, teaching a lot, traveling a lot - so many special opportunities. But a big theme of the year was also just trying to enjoy my life and my time with friends. Happy New Year and cheers to more adventures! ✨🖤✨
