Delighted to share this first excerpt from the world premiere performance of Sarah Nemtsovâs âEMPâ for violin & electric guitar. Composed already in 2023 for Irvine Arditti and myself we finally had a chance to sync diaries and perform it last month at the Interfinity festival. The Program also included two additional duets - a world premiere by Zeynep Toraman and an earlier work by Kelley Sheehan - along with solos by Lisa Illean & Rebecca Saunders. Thank you very much to Zeynep & Sarah for the new beautiful pieces and no less to Lukas Loss, Interfinity director, making all this possible & joyous. Is it just me, or did March feel like an eternity?
A lot of music, a lot of photography â not much sleep (as my @ouraring kept telling me). Well..I guess thatâs just how this kind of multitasking life is.
Biking into spring, randomly running into old friends in Greece (how does that even happen?), hosting other dear friends finally making it to Basel for the first time,
and a lot of admin and coffee in between (of course).
Full and intense â grateful đ«¶

Back in 2018, at the Darmstadt Summer Course, I set up for my guitar class a project titled â12 etudesâ. The intention was to extend guitaristsâ repertoire with a batch of short pieces to be played as a whole or separately as interludes or recital encore. The project featured new pieces by established composers such as Rebecca Saunders, Chaya Czernowin, Jose Maria Sanchez Verdu, Christopher Trapani and Clemens Gadenstaetter to name a few. On the âyoungâ front we had 2 works that were so brilliant, that I couldnât wait to also literally have my hands on them. One by composer Avshalom Ariel and titled âAll the boys forgot about youâ has been on my repertoire for some years now and the other - âZigzag to Callistoâ by @elenarykova_ , I just got the chance to learn and perform. Check out the complete performance at the bio link and for those interested, some photos of the score, guitar preparation and work with Elena are also added. honoured and excited that my orchestral piece "Exoplanets" is the conclusion to this year's @interfinity_ festival in Basel.
@sinfonieorchesterbasel and Lin Liao sound absolutely phenomenal and the music is alongside a lights/laser performance in this incredible space in Basel with @nickverstand . Some shots here from the first rehearsal/test!
Going to be a really special occasion. If you're in or around Basel, catch it Thursday 19th and Friday 20th.
I worked on this piece with several exoplanet scientists across different countries and I really feel proud of the music which captures some of what I find inspiring, mesmerising, thought-provoking and sometimes terrifying about what and how we learn about other planets in the universe.
The piece was co-commissioned by Interfinity and the @londonphilharmonicorchestra , who performed it last year.

@interfinity_ brought together a Nobel Prize winner, a solar-powered adventurer, and a space CEO - who stepped in last-minute â and completely owned the room. Panel discussion on the future of space exploration at the @frankgehry_official auditorium at the @novartis_ch Campus in Basel
Prof. Dr. Michel Mayor (discoverer of the first exoplanet, Nobel Prize in Physics), Raphaël Domjan (first person to circumnavigate the globe on a solar-powered boat), and Prof. Dr. Chiara Manfletti (CEO of Neuraspace, Professor at TU Munich)⊠beautifully moderated by Nelly Riggenbach.
The big question of the evening: Is there life out there?
And the honest answer from a Nobel laureate: âNo idea.â
Thank you for the enjoyable conversation afterwards, Chiara. đđ
