Turns out bedtime stories are for grown-ups, too. The numbers are in. According to de-identified Oura data, that members that tagged “reading before bed” saw significant improvements to sleep quality on nights they used the tag (compared to nights they didn't). A good old hardcover lets your body slow down without the blue-light hangover. Reading fiction, in particular, has been shown to reduce stress and support relaxation. For more ways to relax your mind and body before bed, head to The Pulse Blog, linked in bio.

Laughter does make for great medicine, after all. "Extending from your brain to your gut, the vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve and acts as the central control for your nervous system," explains Dr. Sara Szal, MD, Oura medical advisor and board-certified integrative medicine physician. When activated, it signals your body to shift out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest. Stimulating it starts smaller than you think — humming, singing, chanting, and laughing all activate the vagus nerve through vibration, helping regulate your nervous system in real time. To learn more about your vagus nerve and how to support it, head to the link in bio.

Restorative Time captures the moments throughout your day when your body is actively recharging. This can look like higher HRV, lower heart rate, low movement, and a daytime body temperature that’s closer to your nighttime baseline. The goal isn't one long stretch of calm, but learning how to spread those moments out. This can signal that you are able to balance moments of activity (and sometimes stress!) with moments of stillness. Oura tracks these windows so you can see whether your body is actually getting the recovery it needs to learn, perform, and handle whatever comes next.

Turns out early birds and night owls are both right, just at different times. Your chronotype is a dynamic metric; Whether you're wired to rise early or hit your stride after dark, your chronotype is largely shaped by your genetics, though it may change over time as your long-term sleep behaviors shift. Oura identifies yours after 90 days of tracking your sleep, activity, and temperature trends. Read more about chronotypes on the Pulse Blog, linked in bio. Which side are you on? ☀️ or 🌙

Your workouts, diet, and sleep hygiene are all important factors, but there's a longevity factor that gets overlooked more than it should: your circle. Research shows that relationships are just as significant for long-term health as the habits we track and optimize. Connection reduces stress, supports cardiovascular health, and contributes to a longer, healthier life. One of the simplest ways to strengthen those bonds is through gratitude.

More sunlight means more movement and more time spent checking your Activity Score. Your Activity Score isn’t just a reflection of how much time you spent in the gym or on a walk, it's a breakdown of how sedentary you've been, how balanced your training is, and whether your body's getting the recovery it needs to keep up with you. Spring resets start with knowing your baseline, so don’t stress about your number.
