The first time we met was the day before, on the morning of my 44th bday, when Dmitry showed up on my doorstep in Ubatuba, Brazil to wish me a happy bday. We had already written close to 60 songs together. The next day we got dressed up and were trying to shoot some selfies in the neighborhood. We had this woman from my favorite local fish restaurant write our name on the specials of the day chalk board and some older drunk man who was sitting there having a beer with his friends asked if we needed help so he took a few pics. Unfortunately the phone was set to video so it’s actually a very low res film still. “Chegando is about reclaiming my place on the stage after giving it all up to motherhood.  “Chegando” means arriving in Portuguese. For many years I went off grid. I moved to a very remote beach town in Brazil - Ubatuba - where I embraced raising my daughters and a simpler life. I wrote a lot of music there and was working with a couple diferent producers but everything changed in 2020 when @superdjdmitry emailed me out of the blue with an unsolicited remix he’d made for me. We connected fiercely over a bunch of Dub tracks that had been sitting on his hard drive for quite awhile and this song was the 3rd or 4th I wrote lyrics to. It was like an invitation from higher forces, an invocation: to exist; ro relight the torch and return to my essence and path. “I am here; I’m arriving. “ But also, in the meantime … “I’m cleaning, I’m nursing.” It was important for me to state the small things I was doing, these things that drove me crazy, like just cleaning all the time.
