Today is my birthday and the release of our new single “Hard 2 Say Goodbye” out now on all streaming platforms !
I wanted the lyrics to be a feeling of exuberant joy, the kind of celebration of independence and reclaiming one’s life that comes from a breakup. I wanted to show the bright side, as bittersweet as it was. As they say, “one door closes and another one opens.” Of course there was a deep feeling of sadness, as I knew that ending it would end a chapter of my life in a much larger way, and that we may never see each other again, at least not for a long time. What I didn’t know at the time when I wrote the lyrics “going back to the start now” was that I would be moving back to Berlin where I had lived before my adventures in motherhood in Brazil had begun. The chance to begin again in such a way, going back to where I had come from, was so unique and I felt very blessed by the situation as it unfolded.
“Going far from you, brother, going far into the night. Going far for a mother, gonna catch a satellite. Going back to the start here, and I won’t repeat once more. I have learned, I have lived it, now I’m headed for the door …. “

One of my favourite Deee-lite songs, super proud of this one, also the mix, Kier sounds sublime, backups by Gary “Mudbone’ Cooper of P Funk and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, very influenced by PFunk and Prince (huge fan of their ballads) with Bootsy’s incomparable bass Hendrix like forays and lyrical musings, Bernie Worrell’s incandescent harmonica/ grand piano, as Bootsy put it”Oh and ugh…A lot of babies will be made on this one “:))
