Today we celebrate the release of Project Hail Mary. The journey started for me last summer with 2 trips to London for filming and today finally culminates with the release of a special film. I’m forever grateful to my longtime friends and collaborators
@chrizmillr and
@phillordy for brining me along on another incredible film. They are the greatest filmmakers of our era. When we started talking about the music for PHM they tasked me with making the soundtrack a mixtape from Earth, inspired by the Voyager Gold Record - no pressure. While we weren’t able to represent every country and genre, what we curated is an eclectic and multi-cultural soundtrack that reminds us of the joy and beauty of life on Earth and the power that comes from collaboration and working together to build something beyond ourselves. And hopefully a moment of discovery for music fans. This is not your typical big movie soundtrack. *spoiler alert* With songs from Western singer/songwriters like Kris Kirstofferson, Dennis Wilson and Harry Styles, to South African artist Miriam Makeba, Māori choirs, Latin American folk from Mercedes Sosa and a closing Gospel sendoff from Tina Turner, we aimed to reflect the music of the human spirit. And of course, staying true to the book, The Beatles are well represented. We can’t talk about the music in this movie without recognizing the incredible score by Daniel Pemberton. His themes and the arrangements, which also draw from an eclectic mix of global influences, is a star of the film. The scope of what Daniel was able to pull off is impressive and I know it was a huge undertaking to bring it to life. Thank you to the many collaborators who helped bring this all together, especially the greatest music editor on Earth,
@ktghouse , the incredibly supportive Amazon Music Dept
@ctxtina and
@antonmonsted , music coordinator
@jimcartwright and all of the licensors and artists who worked with us to clear their music. See the movie on the biggest screen you can, with the best sound to fully appreciate the work that went into every detail. Hopefully it will inspire a new generation of scientists - we need them!!
