Last week , we hosted students and lecturers from four departments in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. These people trusted a section of their learning to me, trusting me to curate an honest storyline and reportage on artifacts of Nigerian History that were older than all of us in the room. It will always be my honor to teach about Ladi Kwali and handle original pottery pieces from her, FESTAC 77 Masks and Benin Bronze Sculpture that are paramount to the history of our country.

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking one committed volunteer to work closely with the curator across exhibition setup, documentation, and digital coordination. This role is ideal for an IT student within the Department of Archaeology or a related field, with interest in: • Archives and collections • Cultural heritage documentation • Digital media and exhibition support You will gain hands-on experience working inside an institutional exhibition setting. ⸻ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Exhibition & Archival Support • Assist with basic documentation of artefacts and exhibition layout • Support digital logging (visitor list, film list, object inventory) • Help maintain order and supervision during private viewing sessions Media & Film Coordination • Assist with organizing submitted short films (links, metadata, playback order) • Support simple playback setup during private viewing • Ensure files are properly labelled and stored Digital & IT Support • Help manage folders, backups, and digital records • Assist with QR codes, simple signage, or email coordination if needed General Project Support • Support the curator during walkthroughs and seating-corner conversations • Act as a point of calm, professional assistance within the exhibition space ⸻ REQUIREMENTS (PREFERRED) • Current student of IT, Archaeology, or a related discipline • Interest in archives, heritage, museums, or libraries • Comfortable with basic digital tools (Google Drive, email, file management) • Calm, responsible, and detail-oriented • Able to work quietly and professionally in a library environment ⸻ WHAT YOU WILL GAIN • Practical experience in archival and exhibition work • Exposure to curatorial practice and cultural documentation • Credit and acknowledgment on project materials (where appropriate) • A strong reference for future academic or cultural work ⸻ COMMITMENT • Two primary volunteers only • Presence required during: • Installation period • Private viewing sessions • Deinstallation ⸻ TO APPLY Interested students should send: • Name and department • Level of study • Short statement of interest (max. 150 words) 📧 Email: [email protected]
