on may 23rd in progress ↺ brings you our second edition, a cozy evening of lush textural sound sculpture, ambient, downtempo, and deep listening at @spirethechurch in oakland ☆ oakland based fiber installation and performance artist, @swilkwork , connects people to the gestures of resilience that emerge from grief, particularly in the context of queer history. they will be performing a special improvised solo performance (recently debuted at nyfw) in conjunction with a dj set by in progress host shapes. ☆ sf based via new york dj, @babymfleo , will be joining us for a special two hour set. the @dripping.fyi co-founder amalgamates a lifetime immersed in underground music into thrillingly twisted dj sets. he draws from a web of radical influences: a decade as frontman for the landmark death metal band Animosity; years working at the forefront of psychedelics in cultivation and sonic healing; and deep immersion in NYC and SF’s thriving rave and sound system subcultures. with an emphasis on pure physicality, baby leo shows music’s potential for radical liberation and the sublime joy of authentic human connection. ☆ in progress host xin xin (@tifflaw ) will be setting the tone for the evening with an opening journey of ambient and downtempo ✶ lighting by *.sky (@starrrsky ) ✺ food pop up by @lisak1m_ seating will be available at the venue, but feel free to bring a cushion, picnic blanket, or camping chair to get extra cozy! to cultivate a space for intentional listening, we ask that the audience keep voices down to a minimum towards the front of the venue, but feel free to chat towards the back saturday, may 23rd doors 5:30pm 6-10pm discounted presales door tickets available link in bio https://ra.co/events/2431079 flyer design by shapes

𝒊𝒏 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 ↺ a very big thanks to Tiff for inviting me to come shoot In Progress’s first event. it was such a pleasure to experience the resonating sound scapes from @tifflaw , @mmmmilkshapes , @raven_dx7 , + @kk.shucko & to witness the visual artistry of @starrrsky + @exteeng i tried to tap into many of the elements that these performances presented, such as playing with light, layering, and creating lushness by experimenting with multiple exposures, leaning into softer, more diffused textures, and using composition to drive shape and movement in the stillness of the image. i felt this show really helped me to revisit my creative roots, so i’m really grateful to everyone who made this happen 🌀
