The world is full of one challenge after another and it all seems hopeless. But with words and sense of community, anything can change from gloomy to sunshine. Mama Harriett was the light to not just our souls but to the community as well. People would follow her anywhere because of the love that she gave to anyone. Didn’t matter if you were a stranger or a family it was all the same. A heart that everyone could see and feel. So hold on to the ones you love and remind yourself of the things that make you smile no matter the circumstances. 📸: 1&2 @mwirthphotography , 3 @leahgabrielle____ , 4 @caozaki #denverimmersive #immersivetheater #fivepointsdenver #denvertheater #inheritancekitchen

“If you wanted tortillas calientitas, hot just enough to melt in your mouth and satisfy your taste buds so heavenly that you would battle even your father for the last one in the basket, then you would have to take Doña Jesusita’s business dominion which included only ten tortillas per family per day-just as well” Abuela had to learn how to make her own tortillas after her brother got into some trouble with the local Tortilla lady, Doña Jesusita! Come snack tortillas and learn how the Ramos family had to invent their own recipe for at Inheritance Kitchen for two more weekends! 📸 @mwirthphotography (except photo #2 @caozaki ) #InheritanceKitchen #DenverTheater #immersivetheatre #FivePointsHistory #tortillas

ONIGIRI or Japanese rice balls are a household staple often associated with a mother’s love 🍙❤️ “Rice balls have whatever you want to imbue them with… just like a rice ball, I don’t dare squeeze (my grandson) Kenji too tight… I whisper into his riceballs “ganbatte” or “do your best!”” - Aya Onigiri in its earliest form is believed to go back at least as far as the early 11th Century; it’s mentioned in Murasaki Shikibu’s “The Tale of Genji.” It appears in Akira Kurosawa’s classic 1954 film “Seven Samurai” as the ultimate gift of gratitude from the farmers. (AP News) Come help prep riceballs for the Merchants’ community baseball game in Aya’s kitchen for two more weekends! 📸: 1, 3 @mwirthphotography , 2 @caozaki #denverimmersive #fivepoints #coloradotheater #inheritancekitchen #onigiri #japaneseamerican

Join us at the brand new Block Party Cafe in Sakura Square! Co-owners Mari, Sophie, and Jer decided to open Block Party Cafe to provide a third space in Denver’s Sakura Square which embraces shared solidarity, cultivates belonging, builds community, and gives the gift of love and comfort through our own family recipes. We discovered a year ago that we all surprisingly had previously lived in the same house in the Five Points neighborhood during different decades. Since then, we’ve enjoyed sharing stories with eachother about time spent in that house - especially stories about our grandmothers. The most common throughline between all of our families was food as a love language... So we have decided to share that now with you! Enjoy your time here! We need spaces of joy like these, especially right now, where we can be our truest selves and find others who care about the same things. Say hellol to your neighbor while you’re waiting to be seated, hopefully you’ll make a new friend or two! A note from the team: Block Party is a fictional cafe and the home of the new theatrical immersive experience, Inheritance Kitchen ❤️ We also support local businesses like @taeko_san_takeout @illuminare.ad @kochi.cafe - let us know if you’d like to partner with us!! #denverimmersive #sakurasquare #fivepoints #history #foodislove #denverartists

In the 1980s, Juneteenth was celebrated in Five Points as a commemoration of the resiliency of formerly enslaved people while also celebrating Black American joy and heritage. At a time when gang violence was prevalent, it provided a sense of community and celebration. You’re invited to celebrate with the Harris family at their BBQ in Inheritance Kitchen. The Crusade for Justice was a Chicano civil rights organization in Denver, and one of their programs included a dance group called the Ballet Chicano de Aztlán. Located at 1567 Downing Street, The Crusade for Justice played a key role in the Chicano Movement in the 60s and 70s and the fight against racism and police brutality while also providing outreach programs for the Chicano community in Denver, including one of the families in the stories of Inheritance Kitchen. #inheritancekitchen #chicanomovement #immersivetheatre #denver #history #crusadeforjustice #dance Photo Credit: Auraria Library

Kenichi Zenimura was a Japanese-American baseball player who, like many Japanese-Americans at the time, was incarcerated with his family during WWII. Through his resilience and the resilience of other internees, he led the construction of a baseball field at the Gila River War Relocation Center in Arizona. His story plays an important role in the history of Japanese-Americans as well as one of the stories within Inheritance Kitchen. Join us to learn why.
