Last days to visit Understory at Centre CLARK đŸŒČ Many thanks to the entire team at @centreclark , @cm.richard for the beautiful text, the @est_nord_est team, notably Richard Noury for technical support and production assistance, @institutquebecoisdebenisterie and @maisondesmetiersdartdequebec for support earlier this year, @b.brookbank and @kyleamartens for installation help and my family as well. Thank you to everyone who visited, wrote messages and supported from afar. "This quest for balance is inspired by a layer of the forest: the understory. There, young trees waiting for an opening in the canopy coexist with mature shrubs in the shade. In Understory, McNeely explores how to take root in interstitial zones to create a nurturing and resilient space, despite threats. Like the egg that punctuates the space, a symbol of inception, the promise of life inevitably summons strength and vulnerability; in this delicate encounter, renewal is born, irresistible and necessary." Excerpt from the text by @cm.richard 📝 Documentation by Paul Litherland.

Very much looking forward to presenting my thesis work next weekend, inside of Canopy 1890 - an old hay barn and now/soon to be project space. Located in Roxton Pond, it’s about an hour and half ish from MontrĂ©al. Lots of outdoor space - family and dog friendly. The event is open to all but since it’s a private residence, please send me a message for the address! Reception is Saturday, June 28th from 4pm - 6pm Excited to host you and feed you some snacks đŸ„š

✹Introducing Maddie McNeely: An interdisciplinary artist working primarily in sculpture and installation, using techniques like wood turning, carving, and weaving. Her work explores how objects, materials, and spaces affect individual and collective well-being. Maddie holds a BFA from NSCAD University and is an MFA candidate in Sculpture at Concordia University. She splits her time between MontrĂ©al and the nearby countryside. Real sized match replicas are fixed to the oversized matches that make up the spindles of this banister sculpture. Playful and quietly ominous, this new piece is inspired by a collectible object from a cigarette brand’s ad campaign, evoking associations with vices, forest fires and wilderness survival. It is mainly crafted from repurposed wood scraps. ‱ đŸ’«We’re thrilled to have Maddie exhibiting at our 2nd Expo.

🧼Holiday Drop Highlight: New sculptures from Maddie McNeely 🧼‹ McNeely’s sculptures draw from different contexts and references, such as furniture, plant food, and containers. And like all natural materials, carved wood is highly evocative, both for its utility and its potential. In these arrangements of familiar objects, McNeely organizes our perception in physical space.  Maddie McNeely is an interdisciplinary artist working mainly in sculpture and installation. She holds a BFA from NSCAD University and is currently an MFA candidate at Concordia University in MontrĂ©al, QuĂ©bec. Working mainly with wood, her work investigates physical and psychological relationships to objects, materials, and to lived spaces. Conversations around how the objects we live with, the materials we source and the spaces we occupy, impact our individual and collective well-being is at the forefront of her practice. She has exhibited in Canada, the United States and South America. ‹👆Check the link in bio for the full selection of McNeely’s sculptures in PBL! ‹ 1-5 Images by B.Brookbank 6.
