[LES VITRINES 2025 - OPENING]
📆Opening February 13th - 7pm at Institut français Berlin
@ifkudamm
The first exhibition in the Les Vitrines 2025 cycle, curated by
@indiberaud , features a solo show by
@isabella.benshimol . Her solo exhibition, „The Phantom of Liberty“, takes its title from Luis Buñuel’s 1974 surrealist film, which subversively deconstructs, with irony and provocation, the social and moral norms that govern society. Open to Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm historic avenue, the cross-section of a seemingly typical apartment -comprising a bedroom, a bathroom, a hallway, an entrance, and a dining room- becomes the stage for tension between private and public spheres.
🏠This site-specific installation, composed of sculptures and photographs, incorporates fragments of everyday life. Crafted from architectural elements, furniture, lingerie, worn clothing, and various textiles preserved in epoxy resin or silicone, these pieces imbue the space with a spectral presence. Each seems to carry the memory, fluids, or forms of an absent body, revealing a hollow-out narrative, petrified in time.
👉Isabella Benshimol Toro (1994) is a Caracas-born, London-based artist. Her work draws from the need to freeze in time actions, gestures and ephemeral sensations of everyday domestic life. Her intention is to provide space for critical reflection on notions of intimacy, domesticity, power, and value.
Isabella Benshimol received her MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2020.
