Simone de Beauvoir argued that childhood itself is ambiguous for the two simultaneous worlds it fashions, one of submission and restraint and one of freedom and possibility. For those who become entrapped in the first, they can see nothing beyond the structures that have been set out and guaranteed for them.
Under the curatorial collective In Days of Heatwave, Emre Ataman presents Enfant Terrible in which the emerging young London artists on display recognize and reject the broken promises of authority and choose instead to fashion their own.
