Hello from @incision_press 💕💕💕 It’s a tricky time right now, hey? We’re seeing accounts deleted, qu33r creators silenced, communities disappear, algorithms pulling us apart in all directions.
It’s also hard seeing beautiful small presses fall apart (or get even smaller) with less audience reach & diminishing funding sources. Bookshops that we love are running fundraisers. Writers are getting day jobs when once they survived on tiny royalty cheques. The world of small press publishing must find a way to adapt or we will go under.
M3Ta platforms are absolutely unsafe and yet in many cases it’s all we have. A beautiful qu33r business that we love was booted from mailchimp for content violations. Incision Press had a substack but we got some annoying trolls. How can we effectively tell our community what we are doing, and sell our books?
It’s a pretty damn hard time.
But qu33rs are the best at innovation. We know how to pivot, to build underground networks, to hold weird random parties.
Incision Press was never going to be just about books - we were always going to be about community & writers. This humble newsletter signup will be our best way of keeping you in the loop. My copy of Monsterf#ck arrived and I’m a little obsessed 😍 it’s so damn pretty, and I’m so proud to be part of it.
My piece, Sanctum, is about the desire to love yourself, demons and all. A love letter to the euphoria of becoming, to finding that holy place within yourself and letting it be seen fully, without shame.
This poem also spilled into art. I’ve included a drawing inspired by Sanctum, a visual embodiment of that transformation and sacred self-recognition.

Beyond Black Mirrors by Des DeVivo is heavily inspired by the hillbilly noir writings of @reddyfiction and is a terrifying, sexy tale of someone obsessed with having their own Appalachian cryptid encounter. But without the safety of the glass separating fantasy from reality, will those plagued by curiosity find pleasure… or pain?
I had the pleasure of narrating this piece back in November as part of #humanvoicesonly and couldn’t stop thinking about how well it lends itself to an audio drama style reimagining. Fortunately, Des was kind enough to let me get a little messy with their work 😈
