Denver, our best buddy in the whole world, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, after a three-year battle with lymphoma and incredibly low platelets. He was twelve-years-old.
In June 2022, Denver was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma. At the time, we were worried we might only have a few more months with him, but we promised to do whatever was necessary for Denver, as long as he was happy and loving life. However, if you ever got to meet Denver (or Budley, as we called him), you know that he never let his sickness slow him down. Even through chemotherapy, countless doctor’s visits, and several surgeries, Denver always rallied to be happier and more energetic than before.
He was incredibly smart and loved treat-puzzles more than anything, something he learned to do after he was diagnosed with cancer. We bought every treat-puzzle we could find; Denver solved them immediately, even the most advanced. Watching his brain work and evolve was one of the greatest joys of our lives.
His final day was filled with all of his favorite things: his best friends, couch cuddles, neighborhood walks, and as many treat-puzzles as his little body could do. He passed away in our arms, swaddled in our old, tattered bed sheet (his favorite smell).
Denver came to us as a foster from
@maedayrescue in September 2020. But once we met him, we immediately knew he was meant to be a part of our family. The 1,755 days we spent together as a trio were the happiest of our lives. We’re both completely heartbroken, but we’re so relieved he went peacefully, surrounded by those he loved most, and is no longer in any pain. We love you forever and ever, Budley.
