Allow me to reintroduce myself for the people in the back… I'm Jae and I am a lot of things. - Im a #phdstudent and #adjunctprofessor - I battled kidney failure for over 10 years - I am a #dialysiswarrior (modality #peritonealdialysis) - I advocate for more equity and the erasure of racial bias in the healthcare system. But in all these things - I'm really just Jae! If you've been following me for awhile, get ready to see more of me. If you're new here, this is a preview of what you're going to get. So welcome in and tell me about yourself! #phdlife #healthcareadvocate #ckd #ckdawareness #socialscience

I still can’t believe this is my life. Last year, @beyonce invited me to THEE #renissanceworldtour for her Birthday show! Before I got my #kidneytransplant I made a video saying I wasn’t going to be able to make the Philly show but little did I know, GOD had something better in store!!! This trip was AMAZING and I still have my autographed merch on display!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEY!!! And thank you again for allowing me to partake in the festivities!!! * * * #beyonce #rwt #happybirthday #sirdavis

Jazmin Evans, David Jones, and Aaron Baugh took to the stage at STAT Summit to discuss the evolving theories about using race-based tests in medicine. Patients are rarely aware that race is factored into dozens of clinical tools to inform care decisions, which was explored in STAT’s recent Embedded Bias investigation. We caught up with all three speakers backstage to ask them what they would change in health care today. Click the link in our bio to read more from their panel discussion. #statnews #STATSummit #health #healthcare #healthtech #healthdisparities #medicine #linkinbio

7 years later, 4 years of dialysis later, (almost) 3 years post transplant later, Two dissertation projects later, 200k in student loans forgiven later, and countless prayers later all for this moment. What’s next?

Chronic kidney disease affected most of Jazmin’s young adult life. While beginning her doctoral program, she also started at-home dialysis — eight hours each night, seven nights a week — for four years. Finally, her phone lit up with the words she’d been waiting for: “YOUR KIDNEY IS CALLING.” The next day, Jazmin received her gift of life from her donor hero. Since her transplant, Jazmin has dedicated herself to advocacy — empowering other patients to be their own healthcare champions. Driven by her own experience, she now works as a researcher examining clinical algorithms to help ensure fair and equitable assessments for patients like herself. March is National Kidney Month, and more than 90,000 Americans are waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant. Click the link in bio to read Jazmin's story and learn how you can help!

So grateful to @morgan_cephas and @drniimani for allowing me to be a part of the conversation surrounding Black Maternal Health with so many dynamic women. Please support @morganforphilly and @repginacurry as they advocate for safer more equitable outcomes for Black and Brown birthing people with the PA MOMNIBUS legislation package (and y’all know I don’t endorse just anyone!)

Today’s Substack post on Black Girl’s Resting Place is brought to you by @imnotjaze and we’re deeply grateful to collaborate in this way. This essay reflects on Black solidarity beyond frontlines and spectacle, asking what it looks like to protect one another without turning sacrifice into a requirement or visibility into a demand. It names the quiet, necessary work of choosing each other with care, boundaries, and intention. Check out our bio for the link. #BlackGirlNarrative #BlackSolidarity #BlackWriters #CareAsPractice #CollectiveCare

Today I got to speak to the entire staff (including the satellite offices) of Gift of Life and it was a dream. Not many organ recipients get to meet the people who orchestrated their transplant. Being able to put faces and names to these people was an honor I will always cherish. Guys, there is so much work that goes on behind the scenes and these heros work around the clock to ensure transplant recipients, donor families, and everyone in between have exactly what they need. Special thanks to Colleen and Rick for giving me this time and space. #organdonation #giftoflife #publicspeaking

This Saturday, @wegotus_health is rallying with @lupus_theunknowndisease and Gift of life (@donors1 ) to find @malelupuswarrior1 a kidney donor and spread ACCURATE information regarding organ donation. @drniimani has curated an amazing event highlighting the challenges Lupus warriors face! Come learn, network, and potentially give Emmitt the kidney he’s been waiting for. * * * #lupuswarrior💜 #lupus #kidneydisease #organdonation #giftoflife #wgu
