Another year around the sun, another year without alcohol. Still one of my greatest life decisions and it’s crazy to think it’s been EIGHT YEARS since that decision was made. Each of those years, I’ve written a long and heartfelt post about how important this day is to me, and everything I’ve said before still holds water.
It’s true, there was certainly a time in my life where, if I didn’t change my ways, I had better chances of winding up dead or in jail, than to be writing this today. It’s true, progress has never been a straight line, but one filled with twists and turns of temptations. It’s true, I owe SO MUCH to my friends and family who stuck by my side, through the worst versions of myself. Everyone who could see a better tomorrow for me, even when I was carelessly blind of seeing such a future. I am eternally grateful to have such loyal and selfless souls in my life. The whole world is better because of people like you, and I’ll never be able to say thank you enough in this lifetime.
It’s true, I’m never ashamed to be open about my story to anyone. I believe the constant overcoming of struggles like these speak more on a person’s character than falling to them in the first place. That’s why I take the time to write this out every year. Because countless people, both friends and strangers, have reached out over the years for advice on struggles like mine. All I can do is tell my story, and I’ll always be here for anyone who wants to hear it. Because if it helps even just one person, it’s more light brought into this world that’s often filled with darkness.
And it’s true…all the Glory, goes to God. All of my second chances. All of the victories, both small and large. All of the genuinely beautiful souls that I’ve been blessed to have in my life, all of whom I wouldn’t be here without. All of that Glory, goes to God. I always strive for progress, not perfection, because only He is. I haven’t said that as much as I should’ve in the past, but there’s no better time to start than now.
So thank you God, and thank you all. I wouldn’t be here to write this without you❤️
I pray we all keep up the good fight🙏
