Did you know there is a growing refugee crisis here in WA State? Migrants primarily from Central Africa & Latin America are staying at a camp hosted by Riverton United Methodist Church. Migrants themselves are beginning to share their experience, demands, and needs - which despite the many advocates at the camp attempting to provide immediate assistance, there is still a growing crisis and the needs of migrants that are not able to be met. No governmental agencies are taking responsibility for this crisis and there continues to be threats on their livelihood. on all migrants, organizers, and allies to stand up with migrants, refugees and asylum seekers as they assert their right to a dignified life, and oppose the Tukwila City Council ordinance!

On May 10th, 40+ migrants and community organizations met for a Mother’s Day “Talakayan” or sharing.
They spoke of the struggles of Filipino caregivers and the families of detained migrants, and learned about the growing global campaign “Free the Migrants!” Attendees resolved to unite, support one another, and defend the rights of migrants!

This past Tuesday, we convened our second Trade Justice 101 event at the Washington State Labor Council office in Seattle! We held space for important conversations about the intersections of workers’ rights, migrant defense, militarism, cross-border solidarity, and trade justice.

Today, 7 of the mothers had their habeus petition granted, after spending 2 months in ICE detention. They chose to fight collectively, finding strength in each other to endure abusive conditions in detention, and boldly sharing their stories to fight for release.
Even as we celebrate this amazing people's victory, the struggle continues! 3 mothers taken from Baltimore remain in ICE detention in Tacoma, and many others are still detained in Arizona, with pending asylum cases. We assert that migrant women should have the agency to decide when they return home on their own terms, to communities with livelihood to support their families.
