With the Cabaret Festival on hiatus this year due to funding (or lackthereof), these new showcases are being presented as a grassroots initiative, giving emerging performers opportunities to get in front of audiences and test new material. And for Tippy Darlington, what an amazing night it was. She even won a surpise award, donated by two CabFringe patrons, to encourage emerging talent to keep developing their ideas and material. (drumroll) The Board and Producer of the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2024 Frank Ford Award, generously donated by Sam Harvey on behalf of the late great Frank Ford AM is... 'An Evening with Dame Granny Smith’ by David Salter The prize is awarded to one South Australian artist registered in the 2024 Cabaret Fringe Festival, for the purposes of development or touring of their work. At our awards event last week, held at The Howling Owl @davidjohnsalter was awarded the $5,000 prize. “Highly unconventional and engaging. Dame Granny Smith stole the show and captured our hearts”, the judges agreed. We are thrilled to support the future development of this show as deserving winner, David heads to @edfringe The Debut Award rewards new works being debuted in SA for the first time. Supporting innovation in Cabaret as an art-form,  Phoebe Ophelia's winning show @eyes.to.stone held at @nineteentenadl was raw, vulnerable and brave. The Encore Award is awarded to the act or event that needs to be seen again so the winner will receive $1,000 intended to be spent to fuel tour opportunities. Appropriately the recipient of this award, @charleewattmusic arrived at our awards ceremony straight off the plane to celebrate her show, ‘Beating up the Beatles' Lastly the Boylon Brothers Award recognises the unexpected, risk takers and acts that reflect the role Cabaret plays in providing platforms for authentic voices through many artforms.
