Bonsai has become my favorite hobby and has inspired my art in so many ways. This weekend, I expanded my practice by looking to collect a wild tree (called Yamadori) for the first time. I got my permit and started the search at Ruby Gulch. No luck this time, but bonsai teaches patience and appreciation for nature so I’m always walking away better than before.

First attempt at prototyping a bonsai stand using only hand tools and the joinery techniques I’ve been studying. Really enjoying the slower, more intentional process. Planning to experiment with more unique woods in the next prototypes. What do you think?
Thanks to a grant from @denvertheatredistrict , I’ve been able to experiment with functional design. Studying new joinery techniques and woodworking tools that I learned about when I travelled in Japan last year.
Definitely one of the more complex builds I’ve taken on. Still need to seal it and handle a few final touch-ups, but I’m proud of how it’s coming together.
