We’re back with the 17th edition of IFFM. And this year, it’s bigger, wider, and bringing in many more elements to the festival than ever before.
From stories rooted across India and the subcontinent to voices that deserve a global stage, IFFM 2026 is about giving these narratives a home in Melbourne. It’s also about the Indian diaspora here - audiences who have grown with these stories and continue to carry them forward.
This August, expect screenings, conversations, special events, and a line-up that reflects the diversity of cinema coming out of the region today. We’ll be sharing everything you need to know through June—stay tuned.

Every time I go on stage, I always get nervous. I don’t know why. Because I think I am too used to saying words where writers write and I just say for some other people. Thank you, the jury and thank you, Melbourne, for having us first of all . It was amazing to be here. And thank you for the award, this goes to a few people , Sudip Sharma , the writer and the creator of Paatal Lok, the man behind the series , Avinash, my brother from FTII, the director of it , and everyone who has worked so hard to make Paatal Lok believable And thank you everyone here . Man there is one thing I am tired of speaking in English now . I can’t hear my voice . Better , better, better. Good , good , good . Thank you so much . Thank you.”]
On the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, we remember not just the poet and philosopher, but also the filmmaker who brought his vision to the screen.
Natir Puja (1932) remains the only film directed by Rabindranath Tagore himself, based on his own dance-drama - a rare cinematic extension of his artistic universe.

When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came to IFFM almost a decade ago, she truly graced the occasion.
She hoisted the Indian National Flag, and the sea of people was just mesmerizing to see. Hordes and hordes of Indians cheering for her - the energy, the excitement - it was something to learn from.
She arrived with her adorable daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, and the moment instantly felt larger than life. A true star, through and through.
