This has been a defining week for Australia – one where the Australian public has been able to see clearly where the people in this Parliament stand and who they are fighting for.
On Tuesday night the Albanese Government delivered a budget focused on national resilience, economic reform and cost of living relief for Australians.
In contrast, at the weekend’s Farrer byelection the Liberals tried to protect themselves from One Nation by preferencing them. It didn’t work.
In 1996, One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson said plainly that all Asian immigration should be stopped.
In 2017 she said: “I don’t change my tune. If you look back at what I said 20 years ago, it’s exactly what I’m saying now.”
In 2026, the Liberal Party recommended that voters preference One Nation in Farrer.
I’m proud of Modern Australia.
I’m proud to represent one of Australia’s most diverse communities in Parliament.
And I’m proud to be a part of an Albanese government who will always govern for all Australians.
The Albanese Government is delivering for everyone in our community in Melbourne’s west:
💲More tax cuts
🏡 A fair go at buying your own home
💊 A stronger Medicare
We've delivered our promise to open 33 endo and pelvic pain clinics, including one in Melbourne’s west.
On top of that, we've made sure essential endo and menopause medicines are just $25. We've added new contraceptive treatments to the PBS for the first time in decades. And made it cheaper to access long-term contraceptives like IUDs.
Tens of thousands of women have now accessed a menopause health assessment, covered by Medicare.
Australian women asked for change. We listened, and we're delivering.

1,600 households in our community have already made the switch using our home battery installation subsidy, and they're slashing up to 90% off their energy bills.
Our government’s Cheaper Home Battery program has delivered savings for more than 350,000 Australian homes and businesses.
With over 20,000 solar panel installations right here in Melbourne's west, our community can access fairer, cheaper, cleaner energy.

There is no country in the world that is more important to Australia than Indonesia.
At IndoFair 2026, we held an important conversation about the opportunities that learning Bahasa Indonesia can open up.
While there, I also spoke about the need to change the way that students, parents, teachers, principals, university chancellors, and employers think about and value Asian languages and cultural capability.
We’ve cut fuel taxes to save you money every time you fill up.
War in the Middle East has caused the biggest fuel price spike in history, so we’ve cut fuel taxes and passed new laws to crack down on petrol price gouging.
And we're growing our fuel reserves to 50 days, taking action to secure our fuel now and into the future.
And we’ve signed agreements with Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia to help keep fuel and fertiliser flowing.
Our government is locking in EV discounts for years to come.
From 2027, the full discount applies to EVs under $75,000, pushing car companies to offer more affordable choices.

JUST ANNOUNCED: We’re keeping 20% of our gas here so prices are more affordable for Australians, including our community in Melbourne’s west.
And we’ll grow our national fuel reserves to 50 days to secure fuel now and into the future.
When things are uncertain in the world, we’re focused on helping Australians at home and keeping Australia moving.
The high school students at Indonesia Fair in Sydney could shape Australia’s most important regional relationship.
I joined Anastasia Pavlovic, Katelyn Williams @nenganniemenulis and @alexandra.eowyn to talk about how life-changing studying Indonesian can be.
Continuing Indonesian study into the final years of high school and university can lead to life changing opportunities like in-country exchange and careers they’ve never even imagined.
Congratulations to the students and educators who are investing in Australia’s future.
Semangat!
