The 2nd in Herstory! 👑 After Lotta Crabtree, “The Nation’s Darling” & “SF’s Favorite” of the late 19th Century, an Entertainer who rose from the CA’s Gold Rush Camps to Broadway! This Title is bestowed upon an SF Singer, last year given to @katyasmirnoffskyy . On April 18th, we will meet at “Lotta’s Fountain” at 5:12am at Market, Kearny & Geary Sts. to commemorate the 1906 earthquake! A large vintage-bedecked gaggle meets each year. “Dolores” is part of the “Latinx Queerness” grant project created by artist Juan Manuel Carmona along the Valencia corridor in San Francisco’s Mission District, through the San Francisco Arts Commission’s public art program. Drawing from Huerta’s powerful call to action—¡Sí se puede!—and inspired by Jose Sarria’s fearless defiance as the first openly gay person to run for public office in the U.S., the design honors the intersection of queer identity, migration, and labor rights. It is a visual rallying cry rooted in resilience, resistance, and the belief that collective power can create lasting change.
