《FIRE OF LOVE》
This project draws inspiration from volcanologists Katia Krafft and Maurice Krafft, whose lives unfolded in the shadow of active volcanoes.
Together, they walked willingly toward danger, not out of recklessness, but out of devotion: devotion to science, to the earth, and perhaps most powerfully, to each other.
Through grainy film images and landscapes shaped by fire, we revisit the world they inhabited. Shot on film near Mount Etna, this project attempts to echo the texture of the archives they left behind: unstable frames, burning light, volcanic dust, and moments suspended between awe and catastrophe.
Katia carried a rare kind of feminine courage: lucid, unflinching, incandescent.
But beside her was Maurice, equally consumed by the same obsession. Their relationship was built not around safety, but around proximity to the unknown. They chose to live at the edge of destruction because, for them, witnessing the raw force of nature was another way of fully experiencing life itself.
In a world obsessed with control, they surrendered themselves to uncertainty.
Not to be destroyed by it, but to understand it. To feel it. To become part of it.
This project is not only about volcanoes.
It is about two people who transformed danger into a language of love.
As Katia once said in Fire of Love:
“Once you see an eruption, you can’t live without it because it’s so grandiose, it’s so strong.”
Their legacy reminds us that true courage is choosing to move closer, even when afraid.
And perhaps true romance is finding someone willing to stand beside you at the edge of the crater.
