IC and STI had the pleasure of hosting the Honorary Lecture of Professor Giovanni De Micheli, bringing together his former students who travelled from afar, as well as researchers and faculty members, to celebrate his pioneering research and academic excellence. 📚
Through his lecture, Carrying the Torch, Prof. De Micheli shared reflections on scientific collaboration, the evolution of technology, and the importance of passing knowledge on to future generations.
Thank you Nanni, for everything you have given us throughout your career to our students, to the scientific community, and to EPFL. ⚡️

🏆 LakeCTF Finals took place at EPFL last week in 🇨🇭
80 participants from 16 countries gathered to take on the challenge 💻🔥 And for the first time at a major CTF event, generative AI was completely banned during the competition.
The competition concluded with “pls carry” taking 1st place, followed by “.;.;.” and “FluxFingers”.
🥇 “pls carry”
🥈 “.;.;.”
🥉 “FluxFingers”
Huge congratulations to all teams, and a massive thank you to everyone who helped make this edition unforgettable 🙌. Special shoutout to the organizing team, challenge authors, volunteers, and event partners 💙
LakeCTF is proudly organized by the EPFL School of Computer and Communication Sciences and the @polygl0ts_ctf team.

🚀 pls carry :3 wins prestigious EPFL cybersecurity competition LakeCTF
The fourth edition of Lake CTF brought ten teams to EPFL to take part in a jeopardy-style security hacking contest – with no LLMs allowed.
The event brings together 80 participants in 10 teams who come to EPFL, where they compete to find text strings, called ‘flags’, secretly hidden in purposefully vulnerable programs or websites. The more they find, the better their score, and at the end of an eight-hour nonstop day of roughly 20 challenges, one team is declared the winner.

🚀EPFL researchers successfully mimic dyslexia in an AI brain
Dyslexia, the world’s most common learning disorder impacting reading, spelling and writing, is estimated to affect up to 20% of the global population. Until now, traditional approaches to studying dyslexia, such as behavioral and neuroimaging methods, have provided valuable insights but remain limited in their ability to test the underlying mechanisms of reading impairments.
Now, researchers from EPFL’s NeuroAI Lab, part of the Schools of Computer and Communication Sciences and Life Sciences have modelled dyslexia using next-generation Vision Language Models, that can fully model the whole pipeline from seeing words to processing and understanding the context.
