Casemates on view til mid May. This exhibition, in the big, smile shaped downstairs gallery of MUDAM is part of the EU supported ‘perform, inform, transform’ PIT programme for participation and museums. The central ‘performance’ offered is the digital dumpster made with Andre Fincato, which you can also access online, https://reservoir.casemat.es/ transferring me up to 50gb at a time with your pledge to delete from your device. In time, this becomes transformed fodder for the fifth ‘confidences’ book. Also made these boxes for the computer and bubble fog machine with Pablo and Gerardo, in a moment of self-crisis, when I thought I needed to have some codex for material accountability. These computer boxes have ornamental choices inspired by the Brionvega radios that the Castiglionis and Sapper/Zanuso made. They sit on a table out of a split exhibition wall and the storage bins for the LED screens. Then there’s (alongside a lot of props like umbrellas, walking sticks, toy cars, fake rifles) mannequins from the Grand Theatre, who we stripped of their decades old dust to dressed in Good & Bad garments, which you also see in an introductory video at the entrance, shot with Arvo, and Hard Drive 2, slamming 10 past works into a 4 channel stereo mixdown, to be watched with headphones. This song ‘traffic’ was for the promotional performance ‘The Fountain’, sung in Luxembourg by Jeanna Serikbayeva, while Lev Babych does torso isolations. Alice Walter also did psychopomp work in the museum, which helped me think more about trust, time, responsibility, and storage. Thanks to Leon Kruijswijk and Nicole Wittmann for working and thinking with me, the museum team who helped make it all come together, my past collaborators without whom these traces would be really something else entirely, ily, and the members of the public who are really sending me things. Our idea of what’s not needed is really a moving needle.
Revolt pleaser started with the pleaser shoe as a way to think about the ‘riot’, with its connotative illusion of an elevated platform. General fetishisation of violence, and the reduction of conflict into racial groups, oral histories into talking heads. Heeled shoes walking on the beach, as sand abrades and the shoreline changes, erodes.
The steel shaker box is an adapted shoe box, stolen ornamentation from this almost extinct culture of craving object perfection, their making practice linked to their non-biological reproduction. it’s heavy. Pablo says he likes it because it’s so heavy it’s like a blast containment unit. He and Gera have moved their cut and weld business towards beauty…
It uses Nico’s drawings, old and new, animated by Lucas Gutierrez. His graphic approach becomes the face of the work, appearing on the iPad like a novel entertainment. My voice is occasionally mapped onto the lips of the figures, who are in postures of various force. We made this work with friends, associates - all boys, mostly through text messaging. Some texts are taken from records around the 2005 Cronulla Riots. It was strange, good, to work on this, also while in Sydney. I think I managed to make a classically evasive work, but it seems explicit at times, like a good historic testimonial. I think you’re supposed to open the box and take the headphones out and listen to the work. It’s on view, the next six months in Milan, at Matta. Thanks to all involved for the enthusiasm and support x

we filmed this sequence from ‘the fortress (boss) around huge silver blimps of ice at the museum’s core, through which the air temperature is regulated. Other sections have us in the machine room, the atrium, and the ramparts of the fortress that mudam is built upon. Another location was (curator Léon’s) apartment, where I give an enthusiastic orientation to the show, get cruelly stomped on, take a complicated phone call, and apply the mandated makeup. garments @g00dandbad camera @arvoleo curated by @leonkruijswijk@sapinx 🖥️ Casemates @mudamlux

Though @33___33_33 was first conceived as a collaboration between the artists @billyjohnbultheel and @alexanderiezzi , it has since ballooned into a full band unit. Featuring the addition of @cemdukkha and @ic_ic , the group’s forthcoming release, ‘Tripolar,’ is dissonant and difficult to classify, more the result of a madcap sense of play and possibility than any overarching conceptual or formal themes.
Read our interview with the group by clicking the Editorial link, and listen to their new single “Worry Days” on Nina. The band will present their album live with a show at Berlin's Volksbühne on March 26th. (Photo: @josephkhadow )
